It absolutely rules that Avowed kicks ass.

The attack on DEI shows why liberals should stop arguing about "strategic" use of language forever. DEI stands for three uncontroversial virtues that most every American accepts, and the right still turned it into a vile slur. It doesn't matter what you say - they will poison it because YOU said it.

#SteamNextFest Game number 10! He is Coming from Chronocle. Nifty little retro roguelite with autobattler-style combat. Like the emphasis on exploration, and the countdown timer to boss-fight adds some nice urgency. Nailed the aesthetics too. Cool stuff. Wishlisted. 4 out of 5

#SteamNextFest Game number 9! Haste: Broken Worlds by Landfall Remember Tiny Wings? That iOS game about landing smoothly on slopes? Cross that with the best 3D Sonic games, and you'll have an idea of how GOOD THIS GAME FEELS. Goddamn. I want more of this right now. Wishlisted. 5 / 5

#SteamNextFest Game number 8! Grimshire from Acute Owl Studio I'll check back in on this. Extremely familiar farming sim bones but with a heavier narrative emphasis on survival rather than self-actualization. Also everyone is a cute woodland critter. Wishlisted. 3.5 out of 5

God help me as I stay the course with Steam Next Fest and Avowed while Monster Hunter Wilds releases.

Fundamentally, this is the problem Democrats should be most interested in solving, but at the end of the day, they generally aren’t because they rely too heavily on keeping their base distant from the politics of their choices as well. Thus the interest in scolding leftists.

This is by no means a dig on the man, I like his work, but Jason Schreier really seems like the type of dude to deliver just the worst fucking news, and when you’re liked damn things seem pretty bad, he goes “actually it’s better than it’s ever been, you should relax.”

Shoutouts to the folks at People Make Games for turning me onto this new channel, but I really enjoyed Viewport's interview with Darren Korb from @supergiantgames.bsky.social about his creative process: youtu.be/dT98K56jgO8?...

Not one but TWO new videos available on Nebula, right now! First up, a silly grisly grimy look at the uses of gore in games. nebula.tv/videos/jacob...

I know it's -wild- to link to LinkedIn from here but hear me out, I think @abletoplay.bsky.social is a massive step for accessibility in games and I would love for you to read about it. There's no fundraising or anything here, just a good thing you should know about www.linkedin.com/posts/ramiis...

#SteamNextFest Game number 7! FUMEHEAD by Team Fumehead Oof. There are some fresh ideas for card battling here and the visual flair rules, but the writing is suuuuuuper not doing for me. It's a pass. 2.5/5 store.steampowered.com/app/3194740/...

#SteamNextFest Game number six! Do No Harm from Darts Games. It may be that this demo isn't a great representation of the full experience, but in the hour I spent, it just didn't hit very hard. Puzzling felt a bit shallow and guesswork felt too central. Cool premise though. 2.5 out of 5

I don't know man. I've definitely fucked up my Reels algorithm on purpose - I like to track what's circulating in the crazy right wing wellness and evangelical grifting world - but the last couple days shit has been scary unhinged. Just straight death, violence, and hate speech / crimes.

#SteamNextFest Game number five: Diacritic from Anything Nose Productions. In the 75 minutes I spent with this demo I became a believer. Simple rotating shape puzzles somehow integrate with a deeply thematic sci-fi workplace drama that you navigate on a DOS-esque interface. Wishlisted 4 out of 5

Very bummed to hear this. Harriet the Spy was a huge inspiration for me as a kid to keep writing even if no one was reading.

#SteamNextFest Game number 4: Deliver at All Costs by Far Out Games What a nice surprise - like if Crazy Taxi had the anarchic spirit of Untitled Goose Game and the sarcastic politics of Tropico. Missions are a bit repetitive but core loop is fun. Wishlisted. 3.5 out of 5.

Please support folks. They have Patreon, ko-fi, Twitch subscriptions, Etsy shops, and so on. Buy their things, donate to their links, PASS THEIR LINKS AROUND, share job links/leads, hire them on your team if you have that power. Tell them you like their work. We gotta help each other out.

#SteamNextFest game number three: Deck of Haunts by Mantis Now this is a hook. You're a haunted house. By night you play cards to kill and demoralize visiting humans, by day you upgrade your house with more rooms and scarier obstacles. Def going to keep an eye on this. 3 out of 5. Wishlisted.

I'm like nearly 30 hours into Avowed and I keep seeing people complain about the party banter being annoying. Genuinely, I have not noticed party banter once. Like, at all. Am I banter blind???

Fuck WB aftermath.site/warner-bros-...

Been feeling angry and stupid, so I decided to do something angry and stupid, which was count every dead demon in DOOM. Then, less stupid, donate that amount to @raicestexas.bsky.social. Thanks for everyone who donated and helped raise over $15,000.

#SteamNextFest Game Number 2: Camper Van - Make It Home This isn't for me. It has some of the charm of Unpacking but very little of the low key puzzling or environmental storytelling. The controls are weirdly frustrating and I just felt anxious instead of cozy. 2 out of 5.

I get really irked when I see people post “indies will save us” or “the laid off devs should go indie” THERE IS NO MONEY publishers are cancelling contracts, angel investors/venture capital don’t want small returns. I think they mean hobbyists with a day job working doubletime & that is a rough ask

This games industry bloodbath is because of corporate mismanagement and pure, unrestrained avarice. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Thread.

#SteamNextFest demo number 1: Aethermancer from moi rai games. Clever mashup of roguelite with monster tamer gameplay. Combat feels light on its feet, combo-focused, and built on some very smart resource management. World building feels a bit hollow, but the pixel art is gorgeous. Wishlisted.

This is, I guess, as good a time as any to let friends here know I was laid off this week and that I'm looking for work. I have 15+ combined years in games marketing, narrative, writing, & bizdev. So, hey, if you know anybody hiring, my DMs are open.

Yeesh.

Disappointed but not surprised to hear Fable being delayed until 2026. I really hope this means that we see substantial gameplay footage during a preview event this year but I'm worried.

Got 34 demos downloaded to dive into from Next Fest. Feel like I'm about to take a plunge into deep waters, wish me luck!

So, last year didn't the entire staff of Annapurna Interactive walkout? Who is putting on this showcase today? I feel like I missed a huge chunk of the story here.

If you're checking out demos on #steamnextfest this week, I want to hear about it! Let me see every rec you've got.

All right Steam Next Fest - lets see what you've got.

Pure LinkedIn pilled horseshit. The kind of thing insecure douchebags do because they where their leadership organs should be they instead of watery bags of insecurity and cruelty.
