1. Major news: Remember those "Biological men"/"Biological Women" signs at University of Cincinnati? They have come down thanks to MASSIVE student protests at the college, which have continued. The latest from S. Baum. Subscribe to support our journalism. www.erininthemorning.com/p/university...

Pleased to announce that my article on an Ovid-Lucretius intertext has just been published in Ovidius! I'd been working on this for so long that it was a topic for conversation with my now-husband on one of our first dates in 2019. Life, amirite? Anyways, enjoy! ovidiusjournal.org/ojs/index.ph...

Upcoming deadline! Sunday, February 16 is the deadline to apply for the David D. and Rosemary H. Coffin Fellowship, which supports travel for secondary school teachers of Greek or Latin. Learn more about the application process: classicalstudies.org/awards-and-f...

For #BlackHistoryMonth this year, I’m going to be posting daily about: representations of blackness in Greco-Roman antiquity, the history of scholarship by Black classicists, and the history of Africana receptions using the hashtag #AncientBlackness. Join me.

I'm speaking about the Women's Classical Committee initiative, #WCCWiki, at 'Classics Beyond the Canon' Workshop & Editathon, Cambridge University, this Friday 16.00-18.00. Editathon on Saturday. All welcome! Further details here: www.crassh.cam.ac.uk/events/44331...

I've long thought that one of the most valuable things students can take away from my courses is to leave thinking just a little more critically about things they previously took for granted about the world and their place within it.

New study finds that frequent use of AI tools encourages offloading cognitive tasks and reduces critical thinking. Higher AI usage correlated with lower critical thinking skills, especially in younger users. www.mdpi.com/2075-4698/15...

#AIASCS! The panel that @duxfeminafacti9.bsky.social and I co-organized for the International Ovidian Society kicks off the whole shebang as SCS-1 tomorrow Friday 1/3 from 8-10:30am (room 401/403 in person, Zoom virtually). We have 5 phenomenal papers about Ovid's Heroides lined up; see you there!

Gearing up for this weekend's #AIASCS in Philly? Why not procrastinate your last-minute paper-writing by perusing the short video modules featured in my open-access textbook here, to introduce yourself to some folks you'll see at this year's conference?

Hi History Educators. Some would be delighted to know a book on using historical video games in history education exists, has existed for 13 years, now 2nd edition. Save money; ask the library to get it! (amplifications appreciated; I think a lot of interested folk just don't know)

Somehow, the annual SCS meeting begins in two days. Yikes. But I'll be there from Thursday evening till Sunday morning, with most of my obligations Friday morning into early afternoon but generally free otherwise, so if anyone feels like grabbing a coffee or drink or meal, hit me up!

Dear academics the idea of 'citable source' is nonsense. All sources are citable, each needs to be assessed. This 'citable' idea seems to be an excuse not to acknowledge the work of non-academics. If you want to prioritise peer reviewed academic research, fine. But cite all your sources

just blurted out in class "yes, you have to cite where you got your info. in a world in which lying loudly is the only thing that seems to get rewarded, citing your sources is an act of resistance" and folks, I really believe that.

CfP alert! 📢 Mythological Game Studies Conference @maciejpaprocki.bsky.social and I are organizing an online conference on mythology & video games (May 2025). We're interested in everything games, myth, mythology & mythologies! Abstract deadline: Feb 2! For more: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I … what

Starting work on a project that has me branching into two new-to-me areas of the ancient world study (game studies #archaeogaming and race and ethnicity studies). Terrified but also reassured that many great scholars in both areas are here on bsky now; I may, uh, be reaching out to some of you soon.

I hope all my academic folk have an orderly and stress-free conclusion to your semesters. I know that won't happen, but I wish it for you anyway!

we need professors that are not naturals at academic writing we need professors who didn’t have perfect grades we need professors that went to community college we need professors that went to non-selective institutions we need professors that have always struggled to belong

Mountaintop Coalition is now on Blue Sky! Please encourage anyone interested in Classics and adjacent fields to follow us!

Eduardo posting awful Classics puns, nature is Healing™️

Excited to announce that today I start full-time at Live Science as a staff writer! This means I'll be writing even more archaeology and paleoanthropology stories for you. 🤠🏺🧪 Mini thread ahead... (1/4)

I’m ashamed to the core of my doctoral institution. How dare they retaliate against grad students, the undergrads taught by them, the faculty who mentor them, and humanities departments in this way.

It is my enormous pleasure to share the second issue of Res Difficiles, The Journal, guest-edited by Arum Park, Chris Waldo, and Tori Lee, the leadership team of the Asian and Asian American Caucus (AAACC): “Re(Orient): Reception, Power, and Asian Experience.” #ResDiffJournal

My accomplishment for the day: creating & publishing our new website for the Working Group for Religion, Medicine, Disability, Health, and Healing in Late Antiquity! @remedhe.bsky.social remedhe.com

Hello all: It is with a heavy heart that I remove my Starter Pack of "Trustworthy Mesopotamian Copper Ingot Merchants Within the City-State of Ur." I have been informed about some pretty unfortunate oversights on my part and ultimately platformed some creators who should not have been platformed.

Uncertain why I'm getting so many new followers (the final mass X-odus? am I in a starter pack somewhere?) but welcome! I'm Daniel and I teach about ancient Greco-Roman languages, literatures, and cultures. My husband and I also have an adorable dog named Miso, so here, have a photo.

Thanks so much, @ryancordell.bsky.social, for this h/t -- one of my last hangups about deleting my Twitter account was losing all my posts, but this is a great way to fix that for a low cost. My import has begun, and I'll finally escape the elmosphere once it's done.

Here is the #ClassicsBluesky List of Lists (obviously let me know if I've missed any and as new ones are created, so I can update)

Tomorrow (M 11/11) at 5pm in the Barone Campus Center at Fairfield University, T.H.M. Gellar-Goad and Caitlin Hines will co-deliver the Vincent J. Rosivach Annual Lecture in Ancient Mediterranean Studies, entitled "Antiracist Curricular Reform: Big and Small Ideas for 21st Century Humanities." 1/2

Are you new to Bluesky? Like Classics and want to find amazing women to follow? Here’s the Women* in Classics** list - full of amazing and wonderful people to follow! And, if you fit the definition of the WCC (UK) (below) and want to be added to the list, let me know! #ClassicsBluesky 🏺

The reason we need (much) more diversity in History -- to limit myself to my own field -- is that the widest possible range of life experiences is *essential* to the imaginative work that underpins the richest and most compelling reconstructions of the past. It has to be a collective enterprise.

A question borne out of ignorance: do there exist any demographic statistics on Classics professors at the national level, maybe through surveys conducted by the SCS or affiliated groups? In particular, any info on self-identified race, ethnicity, or sexuality?

Ready for the kottabos live demo in today's class on the symposium in my Greco-Roman gender and sexuality honors course.

Tomorrow (Friday 9/13 at 3pm), I'll be on this panel to share thoughts about being LGBTQIA+ on the job market! If you know of any LGBTQIA+ grads, ECRs, or others who may be interested, please forward this info on to them! Direct registration link here: umd.zoom.us/meeting/regi... ClassicsBlueSky

Just sent off something that I've been working on since literally 2019, but life, Covid, job market, etc., got in the way. To say I'm relieved would be an understatement.

"Dear Editor, I have incorporated all suggestions from reviewer 2, and I hope you find the changes an improvement to the manuscript as a whole."
