British workplaces rank among the worst in Europe for long hours, tight deadlines & limited autonomy, without being any more productive, according to a report produced for the Commission for Healthier Working Lives www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-...

It’s so crucial that everybody feels heard. No one‘s voice is more important than another. I’m honored to be the voice of people in Congress for healthcare & Social Security but each of us has the same power with our voice. Our collective voices are so strong. An inclusive community is a must. 🙏🙏💜💜

Many men commenting on my abortion posts saying “the women should just close their legs.” Why is it 100% the uterus owner’s responsibility to prevent pregnancy but the decision to terminate lies with men and/or government? Does no one see how incredibly messed up that is? 🧵

Feel-good stories about disabled people are rarely intended to make DISABLED people feel good. Read that again.

In case you all didn't know, we are currently in UK Disability History Month. The lack of people talking about it or running events raising awareness about the issues is shocking. Where are all my UK-based Advocates? Are there any plans during UK Disability History Month? #Disability#UKDHM

Three back-to-back meetings/appointments today. Wish me luck! What's everyone else's Wednesday looking like? It's hump day!

MPs are to summon Elon Musk to testify about X’s role in spreading disinformation, in a parliamentary inquiry into the UK riots and the rise of false and harmful AI content www.theguardian.com/media/2024/n...

#Disability poverty is a thing that's very rarely talked about. We see huge cries about millionaire farmers being taxed more and the media and regular farmers who won't be the slightest bit affected are up in arms about it. #Disabled people who can't work are forced to live in perpetual #poverty.

Stranger: “Why are you in a wheelchair?” Disabled person: “How did your last Pap smear go?” Stranger: “EXCUSE ME?! THAT is extremely PERSONAL!” Disabled person: “Exactly.”

On this #WorldToiletDay, did you know there are 9,000 accessible toilets in the UK you can access using our RADAR key? We know 9,000 is not enough, and we will continue to campaign for better, but in the meantime, we hope this can support your daily life shop.disabilityrightsuk.org/products/rad...

I've been busy with Bedford Inclusive Town (BIT Meeting) at the Bedford Borough Council offices today. Some new people are getting involved, and there are many opportunities for exciting new connections. I am looking forward to strengthening those connections further.

Busy day, making and scheduling content, collecting a prescription, searching for a chemist that stocked meds, and offering support to local shopping centres, making sure their Santa's Grotto was accessible. I've not been physically active lately, so 8.6k+ is many more steps than I am used to.

Good morning all. So, what have you all got planned for this week? It's time to set intentions. I have very little booked in, so it's all about getting on top of things this week in life and business.

When you’re disabled or chronically ill - your world is constantly shifting. Consistency and safety are things we long for - but they’re almost impossible to achieve when your body is constantly betraying you.

I write on Medium, so if you'd like to read more about the topics I'm interested in like disability issues including my own lived experience of both physical and invisible disabilities living in the UK, then please follow me on Medium: thedisabilitydiva.medium.com

last thing there needs to be a deep dive into the role parents play in defining disability for their kids we overstep and spend too much time listening to doctors and therapists and not enough listening to actually disabled people

Disabled people shouldn’t have to ask for access, accommodations, or basic civil rights. The ableist system puts nondisabled folks in charge as gatekeepers, controlling what rights we get. That’s not justice — it’s exclusion. #Disability #HumanRights #SDGs #Poverty #Technology #Cinema #Equality

Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens. Don’t think it won’t happen again when they come for the “undocumented.”

Here’s the thing. If I wouldn’t invite someone into my home, why would I invite them into my phone? Blocks are like locks.

People need to remember that anybody can be become chronically ill. Anyone can be become disabled. At any time. Please show us some kindness, compassion, and understanding. So many people don’t. 💖

💯

Disabled people have been warning the world about what was going to happen for ages. But nobody wants to listen to us. Much like Cassandra, we know the future because we have seen the ugliness ourselves, but nobody understands they need to be listening.

What do you do when you have stuff you could be doing, maybe even that you should be doing? but you just can't. Do you try to force yourself, or do you give yourself compassion?

Many disabled & chronically ill people are feeling left behind by those who've left Twitter. Concerns range from not having enough spoons to make transition, not knowing where to go and fears they won't be able to find their people once they get there. How can we ensure no one gets left behind?
