Never underestimate the power of cutting to black during a long cutscene as a perfect place to hide a "checkpoint" for the purposes of not having to rewatch the entire first half every time while you're developing and testing them.

Sincerely, Luck be a Landlord might be one of my least favorite games in recent memory. It takes a special kind of miserable to nearly turn me off on a whole entire genre. It does everything I dislike about roguelikes as poorly as possible, and then some. Pretty terrible art too.
