Day 53: Few creators could reboot Transformers with the raw energy, heart, and reverence that Daniel Warren Johnson brings. Transformers Vol. 1 is a love letter to the franchise - seismic battles, deep stakes, and perfect G1 nods. Roll out and pick this one up! @danielwarrenart.bsky.social

So excited for this!!

@gregpak.net big fan, both of your work and of course, my man Norrin! While I’m bummed a death event is arriving in time for my 40th birthday-month, I’m confident you’ll do him justice. Question: who do you think would be an awesome Herald? DC, Marvel or otherwise?

Hey #gaming bsky folks! If you’re an indie dev, a game journalist or otherwise in the gaming space, we’re looking for a guest for GG, Everybody this Monday, 2/24 at 5 PM PST! Feel free to message us directly here or email mithrandiel at the geekly grind dot com!

Day 52: A cyberpunk classic, Battle Angel Alita blends stunning art, brutal combat, and deep emotion. Found in a scrapyard with no memory, Alita becomes a Hunter-Warrior, forging her own path in a harsh world. This deluxe edition is the ultimate way to experience it.

Day 51: Few comics capture Silver Surfer’s grandeur and melancholy like Requiem. Straczynski’s regal prose and Ribić’s ethereal art craft a cosmic elegy—poetic, profound, and deeply moving. A must-read for fans of heroism, mortality, and stories that aim for something greater.

Day 50: A world without the TMNT… except one. The Last Ronin is a dark, gripping tale of vengeance and redemption, where the last Turtle fights against impossible odds in a city ruled by the Foot Clan. A record-breaking hit with stunning art and brutal action. Who is he? Read to find out.

Day 49: The Silver Surfer is one of my favorite Marvel heroes—more than a powerhouse, he’s a seeker of redemption, honor, and meaning. Freedom sees him escape Earth, only to face new cosmic trials. A stunning, philosophical take on a hero forever torn between duty and desire.

Day 48: Mega Man vol 2 Mega Man was built for peace, but to stop Dr. Wily, he must become a weapon again. As he battles new Robot Masters, the real conflict is internal. Every fight pushes him further from the hero he wants to be. Can he still stand for justice when all he knows is battle?

Day 47: East of West: Volume 1 A world ruled by prophecy. Three Horsemen ride to end it all—but Death rides alone. Hickman’s East of West is one of my favorite comics ever, blending sci-fi, western grit, and myth into an apocalyptic epic. Stunning art, deep world-building, a must-read revenge tale.

Day 46: Tom King’s Superman: Up in the Sky is my favorite Superman story of all time. It strips away the spectacle and gets to the heart of why he is a symbol of hope. His journey to save one girl is a testament to his unwavering belief in every life. A superb read. @tomking.bsky.social

Captain America: Brave New World starts slow, with lackluster dialogue and action, but when Mackie is dialed in, he owns it. Sam, Joaquin, and Bradley’s dynamic is a highlight, and the climactic action is stellar. Not perfect, but a fun, worthy Cap adventure.

Day 45 - Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons is a visual masterpiece. Phil Jimenez’s art is breathtaking, every page rich with mythic grandeur. Kelly Sue DeConnick crafts a story steeped in feminine fury, loss, and betrayal—a stunning, defiant entry in the Wonder Woman mythos.

Day 44: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Vol. 7 blends poignant flashbacks of Himmel and Frieren’s past with the humor and sweetness of Fern and Stark’s first date. As the journey continues, memories resurface, battles intensify, and bonds grow deeper. A truly magical read.

Day 43: Gideon Falls (Hardcover Vol. 1) is a slow-burn horror mystery that burrows into your mind. Jeff Lemire’s gripping story and Andrea Sorrentino’s haunting, fractured art pull you into the nightmare of the Black Barn—where reality twists and terror lurks.

Happy new comic book day…!

Day 42: Shuna’s Journey is Miyazaki’s lost masterpiece—a watercolor odyssey of a prince searching for hope in a world ruled by greed. A precursor to Mononoke and Nausicaä, it’s a moving exploration of nature, survival, and the consequences of human ambition.

Day 41: Extremity is a brutal, breathtaking tale of revenge, loss, and identity. Thea was an artist—until war took her hand and her future. Now, she fights, but at what cost? Daniel Warren Johnson’s stunning art and raw storytelling make this hardcover a must-read.

Day 40: What if everyone on Earth got a genie and one wish at the same time? Eight Billion Genies turns that premise into a wild, unpredictable ride. With vibrant, chaotic art and sharp storytelling, it’s a thrilling look at power, desire, and the consequences of magic.

Day 39: Mega Man Vol. 2 – Time Keeps Slipping is a colorful, action-packed ride where former foes like Guts Man and Cut Man become allies. With Wily on the loose and Time Man bending reality, Mega Man faces his toughest challenge yet in this vibrant, fun-filled arc.

Day 38: Silver Surfer Vol. 1 (1968–1970)—a cosmic epic of loneliness and heroism, beautifully restored by TASCHEN. Lee and Buscema’s tragic opera shines in this stunning edition, with Douglas Wolk’s essay offering deep insight into its lasting impact.

Book a day challenge, Day 37: In Frieren Vol. 6, the First-Class Mage Exam takes Frieren, Fern, and others into the King’s Tomb, where they battle simulacrums of themselves. Thrilling magic duels unfold, leading to a tense yet respectful exchange between Frieren and Serie. Another stellar entry!

I gush about this series a lot, because it deserves it! Excited to have @themikeschwartz.bsky.social on GG, Everybody next week to chat about it, as well as other geeky topics! #comics

Day 36: The Department of Truth is a mind-bending thriller where belief shapes reality. As conspiracies gain traction, they become real - and a secret agency fights to control them. With haunting visuals and deep themes on truth and power, this one lingers long after reading.

Day 35: Frieren Vol. 5 brings thrilling magic duels as teams fight to capture the elusive Stille. Frieren’s quiet teaching style shapes Lawine and Kanne, while Denken’s strategic mind proves just as dangerous as raw power. A gripping mix of combat, wit, and growth.

Millennials living through an “unprecedented” event:

Book-A-Day: Day 34 – The Last God A world built on myths crumbles under the weight of truth. The Last God delivers unrelenting dark fantasy, where the past’s greatest victory was a lie. Philip Kennedy Johnson’s sharp prose and Riccardo Federici’s lush, eerie visuals make it unforgettable.

Book-A-Day: Day 33 – Thanos Wins Thanos conquers everything, but victory isn’t enough. Donny Cates crafts a violent, tragic, and darkly funny tale of inevitable doom, featuring an unforgettable Silver Surfer and the debut of Cosmic Ghost Rider. One of Marvel’s best modern cosmic sagas.

I reviewed another book! Read my thoughts on "Fight, Magic, Items: The History of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and the Rise of Japanese RPGs in the West" by @aidanis.fun. www.patreon.com/posts/book-r...

Day 32: Kingdom Come A landmark in modern comics, Kingdom Come redefines heroism through Mark Waid’s powerful narrative and Alex Ross’s stunning painted art. Every page feels mythic, capturing the weight of a world where gods walk among us and ideals face their ultimate test.

31 days, 31 books! Month 1 of the book a day challenge complete~! I love comics.

Day 31: Birdking Vol. 1 A brutal yet mesmerizing dark fantasy where a runaway warrior meets the enigmatic Birdking. Crom’s bold, raw art brings the eerie world to life, while Freedman’s storytelling pulls you deeper into its mysteries. Fans of Berserk and Monstress, take note!

Day 30 – Solo Leveling Vol. 1 Sung Jin-Woo is the weakest hunter in a world where dungeons and monsters are a daily threat. Left for dead in a brutal raid, he gains a mysterious ability that lets him level up. A gripping and intense read, perfect for shonen fans who love underdog stories.

Day 29: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Vol. 1 Beyond the beloved Ghibli film lies Miyazaki’s true vision—a sprawling saga of war, lost civilizations, and a dying world’s fight for renewal. If you think you know Nausicaä, think again. The manga is a must-read masterpiece.
