Increase in productivity since 1979: 86% Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 31% Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%. As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

I saw someone get slammed for an innocuous comment on a thread. The OP is a talented writer, but now I never want to engage in case I don't say something witty or adoring enough to pass muster, so I unfollowed. It feels a lot like high school. I'm going behind the gym for a smoke.

Imagine leaking classified strike plans from a personal phone to your family—putting U.S. Troops at risk—and then whining about media coverage. Pete Hegseth isn’t just reckless. He’s 100% unfit to lead. Fire him.

The Women of the Six Triple Eight are true American heroes.

Before the advent of modern antibiotics and vaccines, half of all children died. In broad strokes, half of all children had always died, everywhere. After the advent of modern antibiotics and vaccines, the death of a child became an unusual event in Western societies.

The most powerful word in an authoritarian world is "No." No, Mr. President. We do not believe your lies. No, Congress. We DO expect you to stand up for the Constitution. No, you need a judicial warrant. No, we will not accept human/civil rights abuses of ANYONE. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO.

Nevermind. Can proceed with my forever hate of Bezos and Fox. Carry on.

It's a challenge disentangling oneself from the various consumer/tech ecosystems - Amazon/Audible, Meta, etc. But I'm slowly doing it. Doing without non-necessities leaves room for more valuable things, including the time, energy, and resources to share with others. It's different and freeing.

@amyklobuchar.com Once again, collaborating with the administration to put another Trump bootlicker into a position of power. Who are you serving, Senator Klobuchar? Your Senate brunch buddies? Certainly not your constituents.

Trump’s first 100 days? Thousands of Veterans fired. Benefits gutted. Lives wrecked. Musk’s DOGE is torching Veterans’ jobs—and Republicans are too cowardly to say a damn word. Stop the war on Veterans. Fight back. #HandsOffOurVets

Started off my day per usual. Arguing with my tech husband about how AI is exploitative, promoted by the worst humans on the planet, and a gobbler of natural resources at a time of climate crisis. He handled it by backing towards the kitchen, where I was overtaken by the need for coffee.

Good lord, this day is so confusing. Amazon and Bezos doing anti-Trump tariff work. Fox News reporting the most tepid first 100 days ever (Trumped ended paper straws). Am I the bad guy now for my forever hate of these entities?

Cancelled my Duolingo Family Plan. Not interested in the AI invasion, nor the devaluing of humans. Can't these CEO shitheads leave us anything enjoyable? www.theverge.com/news/657594/...

Since the argument about “defund” being a bad word to use in political discourse is going on again, I will just observe that the present regime has made such violent terms as “diversity,” “equity” and “inclusion” disqualifying words to use. There is no word that can’t be turned into the wrong word.

"...the size of a platform does not determine the weight of a conscience. In times like these, silence - even from small places - amounts to complicity."

AI: Going from mid to worse. I see all kinds of arguments about AI, but the biggest problem has to be that humans are behind it. And the only thing we've truly engineered/manufactured well throughout the ages is racism, misogyny, and ableism. apnews.com/article/arti...

Nature abhors a vacuum. If GOP reps are too cowardly, somebody is going to fill that space. It might be somebody at the start of their campaign for senator, but preparation meeting opportunity and all that. www.startribune.com/as-angie-cra...

Wherever I go or wherever I've been stationed, I find the library & tucked away bookstores. I have fond memories of @greenapplebooks.bsky.social on the Park in San Francisco. I left with a stack of books which I hauled back to the hotel. Always leave suitcase room for books! #independentbookstores

Fellow authors, I love you, and I know it feels like we don’t have a choice, but B&N and Am*zon both scheduled sales this week to preempt Independent Bookstore Day, a hugely vital source of income for indie bookstores. Please don’t promote their sales; please promote your local indie this week.

Nothing to say that will add to the conversation on Bluesky. Here, have 5 turtles sunning on a rock.

Protest in #Duluth!

This is something I try to remind myself each time my anger leads me here - to the namecalling of an 80s childhood. It's a challenge, but so many "insults" are ableist, phobic, or straight up bigoted. We can learn.

This robin's territorial defense and poopification against my husband's truck continues apace, day 2. Every spring, I put up new window decals & deflectors around the house to prevent bird strikes. Fortunately this robin is going for up-close strikes. Only his pride would be injured, if he had any.

“We’re too weak to demand one person be returned from El Salvador” is the Trump message and they should be pounded for being weak little shits. Ditto all his tariff backtracking. They’re weak, weird shits.
