Breaking: charges have been withdrawn for three more of the "Indigo 11." They were pursuing a legal action against the police, and the crown withdrew the charges. Press conference about to start. More to come.

Scoop: Hot Docs confirms to @TheGrindTO this will be Scotiabank's last year sponsoring the festival. Hot Docs says “Scotiabank has opted to waive its recognition benefits at this year's festival.” It's still listed as a sponsor on the site though. Screencap from today.

Yesterday, @michaeldeforge.bsky.social was on CBC Commotion talking with @elamin.bsky.social about his Grind article about the Law & Order Toronto encampament episode. Listen here or wherever you get your podcasts.

The Grind looks deep into the story behind the statement that Nightwood put out in the fall. www.nightwoodtheatre.net/elementor-15...

“It remains surreal to watch how quickly these moments become grist for the content mill — tacky facsimiles of real life traumas.” - @michaeldeforge.bsky.social

I recently got an email from StrategyCorp, the conservative-connected comms and lobbying firm for Therme's Ontario Place redevelopment. They wanted a correction, but nearly everything they said was false or misleading. And when you scratch the surface, there's a much bigger, under-reported scandal.🧵

I didn’t talk about this publicly for over a year. I guess I had hope that we could resolve things before that needed to happen. It’s wild to me how Nightwood leadership continues to try and obscure the truth, even despite the clear evidence presented.

Reminder for #TO folks that @thegrindto.bsky.social is kicking ass on the local news level.

Whatever happened with the Nightwood Theatre Innovators Program last year? Emma Paling and Robyn Grant-Moran have the scoop.

NEW: Commercial use allowed on 30% of Therme’s Ontario Place ‘public’ outdoor space. Plus: doubts about the ‘$200 million’ investment After Therme’s comms team at StrategyCorp contacted us, we looked at the lease again. What we noticed was shocking... www.thegrindmag.ca/commercial-u...

The episode creates ridiculous storylines and interactions while drawing inspiration from real headlines and people. It also manages not to engage at all with why encampments exist. The end product is cheap and insulting, writes @michaeldeforge.bsky.social.

wrote for The Grind about Law and Order Toronto's awful encampment episode, their appropriation of former encampment resident J the Letter's artwork, the speed at which political crises become aestheticized, and seeing my own work repurposed for bad copaganda www.thegrindmag.ca/the-law-orde...

Congrats to the team behind No Other Land on the Oscar win for best documentary. Our recent review:

here's a take: banning bike lanes is worse than a lot of these things. it disrupts what was otherwise a slow grass-roots change happening across Ontario. like the science center is cool and all but if you live in Windsor, not being able to bike to school is much more relevant.

Proud to finally be a paid supporter of The Grind Magazine (@thegrindto.bsky.social). They're doing great work and have a superb crossword puzzle.

It's election day in Ontario, and as usual there's discussion of strategic voting. I wrote a short article about this controversial tactic in the new issue of @thegrindto.bsky.social. Gunna summarize it in this thread. 🧵

It's Ontario election day! I voted :)

Maggie tells The Grind that each month she only has $100 to cover all her costs for medicine, monthly mobility injections and food. This leaves her $400 short. Every month.
