John Schneider told Shi Davidi X-Rays on Addison Barger were negative. He’ll likely get a day off tomorrow but not expected to be sidelined long. Barger took a Garrett Crochet pitch off the hand and bat knob in the first inning and suffered a hand contusion per Blue Jays

Free agent pitcher Ryan Yarbrough and the Blue Jays are in agreement on a minor-league contract, with an invite to spring training as reported by Robert Murray of Fansided.

Sportsnet announces the network will air 23 Blue Jays spring games on TV and Sportsnet+, including all 16 home games live from TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Florida.

"I wanna be a Blue Jay for the rest of my career, but it's free agency, it's business, I'm going to have to listen to 29 more teams and they’ll have to compete with that.” Vladimir Guerrero Jr., on his future with the Blue Jays.

Ross Atkins was asked whether he felt the front office and Vladdy’s camp was “close” to an extension.. "It just depends on how you define close, that's too big of a word to talk specifically about," replied Atkins. "I'm not comfortable talking about numbers."

Yes. Jays are in agreement with him on a minor league deal pending physical. Would pay him low seven figures if he makes team. Johnny Giunta of the Gate 14 pod was on this first.

Daulton Varsho (shoulder) update: He’s been hitting in the cage/taking BP with no issues, but it is throwing that’s been his big focus at camp. Varsho arrived at the PDC on January 7th, and started throwing a football. He’s now into his 3rd/4th week throwing a baseball:

Asked Ross Atkins whether there’s a willingness to get a contract extension done with Bo Bichette:

Bo Bichette on no discussions yet on a possible contract extension.

Los Chamos Venezolanos 🇻🇪 Blue Jays Ali Sanchez, Anthony Santander and Andres Gimenez

Anthony Santander arrived at the Blue Jays PDC today, and made a beeline for the cage to meet his new manager and teammates.

Adam Kloffenstein suffered “a little bit of shoulder fatigue…he had an MRI done. Nothing structural, just some inflammation. He's going to be down from throwing for a handful of days..” - John Schneider

Coach KK (Kevin Kiermaier) reporting for duty.

Erik Swanson (forearm) experienced some “soreness” after throwing a bullpen here. “Got an MRI.. structurally everything’s good..I still feel strong and making sure I’m going about it the right way.” Swanson’s not concerned and continues to work hard to catch up.

Asked Ross Atkins whether he’s been in daily contact with Vladdy’s camp re: negotiations.. “Anything I share decreases the likelihood of us getting something done, which is our goal. I can say that we have worked very hard, and has Barry (Praver), to find a way, if there is one.”

Max Scherzer, Kevin Gausman and Chris Bassitt

John Schneider said you could see Will Wagner playing some 1B this season. Wagner getting some intel from Don Mattingly.

Former player Gosuke Katoh is back in Blue Jays uniform in an assistant major league operations role. He’ll be with the big league club this season to help with advance scouting.

Blue Jays’ Max Scherzer on his health going into 2025: “I’ve had a very good offseason so far.. been able to do everything normal.. normal ramp up in the throwing.. right where I need to be in terms of my bullpen progression.”

We had a terrific wide-ranging discussion with Kevin Gausman. Love this dude ... www.sportsnet.ca/590/blair-ba...

"The amount of data and info that he’s able to look over and understand is tenfold what I can.” Chris Bassitt will now be reunited with his former teammate Max Scherzer. Ahead of a pivotal 2023 series, I asked Bassitt for a scouting report on his buddy: www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/...

Heyman reporting the deal is worth $15.5M

Someone said MLB agents have recently been informed they cannot contact Pete Alonso. This would have to be initiated by Alonso himself. Evidently, Alonso wants to continue working with his agent Scott Boras without hearing from other agents looking to poach him.

Source: deal is for one year, $1.15 million

Lots out there today. Pete Alonso & Max Scherzer could be fits for the Blue Jays in time. But sources tell Shi & me that there’s no momentum toward a deal on either player right now. Wouldn't be accurate to say talks are progressing.

BREAKING: Outfielder Jurickson Profar and the Atlanta Braves are finalizing a free agent contract, sources tell ESPN.

Sportsnet colleague Shi Davidi (on X) with details on Anthony Santander's $92.5-million, five-year deal. The deferrals in the deal give the contract a present value calculated at $68.6 million, per industry sources. That means for CBT purposes, the AAV is a tick above $13.7m.

Blue Jays announce they have agreed to terms with free agents C Christian Bethancourt and LHP Richard Lovelady to minor league contracts with invites to 2025 Major League Spring Training

asked whether the Myles Straw contract will impact the Blue Jays' next steps, Ross Atkins said "zero. zero impact"

More from yesterday’s Santander avail. Asked Ross Atkins if he’s close to making any more moves: “I always viewed it as you’re never close until you're done because something could always change or set you back. But we're working around the clock and won't stop.”

OF Anthony Santander will wear number 25. OF Daulton Varsho switches from number 25 to number 5. Last worn by INF Santiago Espinal in 2023. #BlueJays

Ross Atkins on New Blue Jay Anthony Santander: "We had a jersey floating around our office with your (Santander) name on it all off season."

Anthony Santander, on his New Jersey: “Looks great on me already. Wow!… Thank God. I'm happy with this opportunity, and I just can't wait to be with my brothers day one of spring training and work hard, get better every single day and go after the championships that we're looking for.”

The Blue Jays make the Santander signing official: The Blue Jays have agreed to terms with OF Anthony Santander on a five-year contract (US $92,500,000). Additionally, LHP Brandon Eisert has been designated for assignment.

Blue Jays have a done deal with Anthony Santander, source tells me & Shi. Physical done. First on the agreement was Jon Morosi. The deal gives the Blue Jays a switch-hitter coming off a 40-HR season to pair with Guerrero Jr. & Bichette in the heart of the Toronto lineup.

Blue Jays and OF Anthony Santander are in agreement on a deal per Jon Morosi on X

Per @feinsand.bsky.social Tanner Scott and the LA Dodgers have agreed to a 4 year, $72 million deal.

Japanese star Roki Sasaki signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, he announced on Instagram. The 23-year-old right-hander with a sizzling fastball and deadly splitter joins Samurai Japan teammates Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto with the World Series champion Dodgers.

With Roki Sasaki's decision hanging in the balance, do you think Blue Jays execs are chatting to reporters about how they’ll maybe trade away their franchise player? If you're reading about the Mets & Vlad Jr., there's really one team it could have come from. Seems like Mets want that out there.

Per my colleague Shi Davidi, the Blue Jays announced they've acquired international bonus pool room from Cleveland, OF Myles Straw and cash, for a player to be named or cash.

Jeff Hoffman on MRI that was concerning to Orioles, but not Blue Jays: “for the actual physical.. orthopaedic exam, really nothing to worry about.. everything is normal for me… they're not as concerned with what the image shows, they're more concerned with how the player feels”
