The CALC conference is back with another excellent line-up this year. The only UK library conference dedicated to critical library practice aka #critlib, and an amazing event in my experience. Check it out. #calc25

Hello insomnia my old friend.

If you want to stop World War Three, think what would have stopped World War Two. Occupation of the Ruhr. Anschluss with Austria. Annexation of Sudetenland. Hitler could have been stopped each time. But fear of war led to war. Don’t repeat the mistake. #SlavaUkraini

As anyone who works with the public can tell you, when they ignore the issue under discussion and start insulting your appearance, they know they're in the wrong.

Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy. We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.

Zelenskyy is my hero. A true anti-fascist. A man with more bravery and dignity in his other finger then most of his detractors will encounter in their lifetime

Z asked me at Bedtime last night "Why do sharks exist?" I can't stop wondering why indeed now.

I am planning a 12 week burnout group coaching programme but struggling to think of best time for the people I want to reach with it. 90 mins a week for 12 weeks, it could have breaks in it and I want to avoid summer hols but alot of audience are in H.E. so Sept etc not ideal...

Excited about the first session of my Kind Brave Leadership course this afternoon.

I know that my US library friends and colleagues are in need of kindness and bravery in ways that are unimaginable. I have 4 spaces left on this course - if you are a US librarian who can benefit from this get in touch before Wednesday and I can offer a free space to up to 4 of you.

UK members in NHS & universities are already seeing impacts on changes to scientific & medical data relating to protected characteristics https://buff.ly/3QsEFix We encourage people to also share examples of UK impacts on climate science https://buff.ly/3XbOsgE #FactsMatter

My Kind Brave Leadership course kicks off on Wednesday. "We now are far and away more kind to each other: acknowledging our highlights and accomplishments and showing gratitude for the work that we do" - feedback from my Kindness in Libraries course www.thekindbraveleader.co.uk/the-kind-bra...

Yesterday was my second #SBS winners day. It was amazing- I always come home buzzing and full of ideas. If you are a small business owner then enter and keep entering, it really is the most amazing community. You can enter on insta, linkedin and (for now) X every Sunday.

Surely being nice is quite a good place to start in politics...

I have been trying to write a post about bravery and leadership but the bravery i am seeing in the US from my library friends, and the need for it feels so big it is hard to find the words.

I cannot understand this decision. Universities are struggling to fund resources as it is - the risks associated with signing up to a subscription deal are enormous at the moment.

@cilip.bsky.social is concerned that the removal, hiding & modification of data, research & other information resources by authorities in the USA is starting to impede the vital work of UK library & information professionals, researchers & educators. www.cilip.org.uk/news/693964/...

Why not celebrate #RandomActsOfKindnessDay with Kindness Bingo? Inspired by @thekindbraveleader.bsky.social's The Kind Librarian, it's a great way to spread kindness in your library! 💖

"People like us aren’t going anywhere, ever - not for you, Brian, with your band of cowards, your tinpot masculinity that sneers and punches down, your ego propped up by scaring women and children, or the shallows of your fake-tanned soul." theendisnaenae.substack.com/p/manning-up...

This piece, by Anna McMartin, is poignant and touching. Yeah I'm not crying, you're crying #kiwi #aotearoa

Starmer confirming the UK is willing to put boots on the ground in Ukraine. An immense moment. Hard to overstate how important this is or how impressive it is that he's done it.

Take a slow morning: Enjoy your cup of tea or coffee without multitasking. Just sip and be present. #KindnessRipples #SelfKindness

Write yourself a love letter: Yes, really. List the things you admire about yourself, and read them whenever you need a boost. 💌 #KindnessRipples #SelfKindness

Be your own cheerleader today: Instead of focusing on what’s left to do, celebrate what you’ve already accomplished. You’re doing better than you think. 🌟 #KindnessRipples

Give yourself permission to rest: You don’t have to earn breaks. Take a moment to stretch, close your eyes, or step outside for fresh air. 🌿 #KindnessRipples

43% of us are 15 mins walk from a public library, 78% are 30 mins away https://blog.librarydata.uk/walk-to-your-local-library/ Love this analysis from Libraries Hacked, illustrates the need for more local branches #LibrariesChangeLives

How about spending an hour finding out all about the power of noticing kindness? Two weeks today you can do just that with Sarah Browning and our Kindness Unites webinar. Don't miss it! www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1225249106...

Buy an extra snack or coffee today and give it to someone who might need a little pick-me-up. Small gestures create big ripples. #KindnessRipples

Check-in with yourself: How are you feeling today? Take a moment to pause, breathe, and honour whatever comes up without judgment. #KindnessRipples

Try this today: Compliment the first three people you talk to. Bonus points if you notice something unique about each of them! #KindnessRipples #DailyKindness

Make it a goal to learn the names of people you see every day—like your office security guard or local barista. Use their name next time you say hello! #KindnessRipples #DailyKindness

Sadly only one person has signed up for this. If you are thinking of it please sign up this morning.

Speak kindly to yourself: Pay attention to your inner voice today. Replace any self-critical thoughts with words of encouragement. You’re doing your best, and that’s enough. #KindnessRipples #SelfKindness

Every Saturday morning I take Z to swimming lessons. They are a complete joy as he gives it his all and loves it. Just realised it won't be long before he won't be having them with me in the water. Feel a bit sad about that.

Unplug to recharge: Take a break from screens for an hour today. Use the time to journal, read, or simply rest. It’s okay to step away and reset. #KindnessRipples #SelfKindness

Plans are coming together for our in person Kindness Unites. I am sure this clue to its location will make sense to at least 2 of my followers here...

Put 50 paper hearts in a box and write something you appreciate about a friend or loved one on each one. Tell them to pull one out anytime they need a smile. #KindnessRipples #DailyKindness

Next Tuesday I am running this workshop that introduces coaching skills to librarians - it is suitable for any librarians keen to learn some kindness skills and out a bit more about how these skills can help them communicate, lead and connect. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1115943600...
