there really ought to be more discussion about the fact that virtually every promise (or denial) trump made during the campaign was a total lie

It's almost as if government programs working to get new people into the pipeline were intentionally developed and had an important purpose.

im not trying to say this applies to the people that are being let go but if youre not going to have a robust welfare state then youre gonna have to pay some people to do some bull shit jobs, its one or the other

"or exhibit symptoms consistent with" Won't be long until they start banning gay people and cis women who dress wrong

The fact that the USA has banned visas for trans people but welcomed rapist Andrew Tate shows how all this "defending women" stuff is total bullshit

Just got fired from being a freshman football coach, if you want to know what MAGA does to communities. They don’t care about what helps people, because the school is certainly not going to find an ex-NFL player willing to coach there at that level, they only care about trying to hurt people.

Lol I’ve seen lots of stuff in my day but blaming the Democrats for not getting shit done because if they hadn’t had the votes to pass the ACA they wouldn’t have passed the ACA is genuinely new to me.

This whole country wants bad things for others more than they want good things for themselves.

I'm no politician, but there's not a representative in this country who couldn't find a bright, young, patriotic federal employee from their district who got the buzz saw from Musk and Trump. Get them on camera. Make these job losses personal, ya know.

At some point in the not-too-distant future there's going to be a dire need for a functioning federal government and it's just not going to be there

Tesla owners are going through it

I preferred when the "Kennedy curse" only affected the Kennedy family.

I get the fear that the Musk/Trump junta are trying to provoke Americans to protest so they can invoke martial law, but that does invite questions about “who is gonna do the enforcing,” and further questions about “the regime is aggressively pissing off a ton of the people who’d do the enforcing”

the thing about musk is that he has a very consistent pattern of behavior throughout both his career and his public life, and he will keep pushing until he's forcibly removed from a situation. peter thiel is the only person who has ever done business with him who knew how to handle him.

abjectly horrifying that in eight years we have gone from a North Carolina bathroom bill creating a genuine backlash to a nationwide direct and explicit attempt to erase trans people from public life

There is an observed phenomenon called elite panic where the rich and powerful turn on each other in crises and all their decisions are driven by the erroneous assumption that everyone else is the same

RFK really missed the simplest lesson of LBJ’s career, try not to get any kids killed if your name rhymes with “how many kids did you kill today”

“I voted for him, and he’s the one who’s doing this,” she said of Mr. Trump. “I thought he was going to do good things. He’s not hurting the people he needs to be hurting.” -- Crystal Minton in Jackson County, Florida; 2019, per NYT

The thing about all the "Trump and his cronies are trying to overwhelm the zone" discourse is that I don't think Bannon and Miller meant "with a bunch of colossal fuck-ups and failures" when they talked about the Administration doing so much so fast that the media and public would be overwhelmed.

I'm convinced this is a genuine problem. The reality of Trump is so cartoonishly, comically awful that an absolutely neutral description sounds like a hit piece, even to me. So if you're at all predisposed to think of press as biased, factual reporting looks like some relentless vendetta.

It’s going to be interesting if the podcast lords suddenly find themselves in a position where blind support of Trump is no longer sustainable under some contrarian punk rock bullshit.

Why do I feel like the Trump message to people who have been contributing to Social Security for 50 years is going to be, “Too bad.” But the message to dudes who went big on crypto in the last year will be, “The government is going to help you out.”

AI has so thoroughly ruined every god damn search result that now when I want to know something I start with wikis or reddit; those places (except actual Wikipedia) are populated by insufferable overserious weirdo goblin nerds who have lost perspective but they are at least human beings god dammit

I don't know who needs to hear this but if you have a job, even a great job you love that pays really well, YOU ARE NOT A CAPITALIST. You are still part of the labor class even if you are one of the luckiest ones.

my real dark take is access hollywood tape helped trump win in 2016

The speed with which the entire rightwing media and actvist machinery mobilizes, adopts the same message, in service of whatever the Trumpist regime needs at any given moment is remarkable. It's how they keep everyone on the Right in line, create cohesion. Nothing remotely comparable on the Left.

Shocking the extent to which a lot of the GOP is committed to killing their own voters

Replacing in person services with Grok chat bots is just going to eventually lead to a massive class action lawsuit.

This also goes for race and LGBTQ issues where it’s important to remember that none of this would be possible without a large portion of the news media agreeing with it and saying the movements had gone too far and painting Trump as a moderate force

Much like how I suspect the Koreans gave no quarter to a coup attempt because they have living memory of dictatorship, I wonder if being born to a family of dissidents under the Pinochet regime has made Pedro Pascal bolder about getting political

The people regretting their Trump votes are just mad the consequences of Project 2025 aren't being solely leveraged at the people they hate.

Five alarm fire. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

It really is reasonable to ask how we could possibly ever forgive our fellow Americans for voting for what is happening to us right now and what is going to continue to happen for years and years. I mean the simple answer would be... we just don't, right? Ever? Because some things are unforgivable?

If anybody tells you it is hyberbolic to call these people "Nazis" because the Nazis killed millions of people, these clowns have done so, too.

People still: Look, we can't read history through a contemporary lens. There wasn't a consensus that slavery was wrong. Every 18th c. pamphlet: How can they do this? Are we SLAVES? In SLAVERY? The worst things you can be? Are they gonna put us IN CHAINS? Like in SLAVERY? Which is EVIL? Like SLAV-

Pedro isn't just a zaddy — his gorgeous trans sister Lux has often been his plus-one on red carpets, where he beams proudly. he's a real one. ❤️

They're going to kill a lot of people.

Every single Democratic governor and attorney general needs to do this -- if only to make it clear to voters *right now* that the firings and funding freezes that are about to hurt their states badly are the work of Trump-Musk in Washington. Get ahead of this now, or get blamed for it later.

you don’t need the press corps anymore — just pull out your phone. AOC did a livestream that spurred THOUSANDS of calls to congress. the msm wants drama? give it to them. like right now dems should have a fucking PARADE of fired federal workers out there putting a face on all this.

the most surprising and disappointing aspect of becoming a global health philanthropist is the existence of an opposition team

said this before and i wasn't exaggerating: RFK has the exact personality type of the kind of person that, in a different sort of regime, oversees mass starvation.

(1/X) The next four years are likely to be a disaster in many regards: more plane crashes, more outbreaks of measles and other infectious diseases, snafus with tax refunds and Medicaid payments, terrorist attacks, and probably a recession. The media will tell us none of it is Trump's fault...

that one worrying point when you put together a theory that feels crackpot but makes complete sense to yourself

Bezos destroying the post opinion pages is just another reminder: Conservatives think free speech is when they can say what they want and when you can say what they want.

This is just Nazism.
