By "resonate with" they absolutely do mean "will very likely traumatize"

I’ve seen this once already, some months ago, and am still thining about it. I can’t recommend it highly enough now it’s about to be on general release in the UK. And I generally dislike cats! youtu.be/xGLIbjuHptw

Well, it turns out Flow is not so much a heartwarming Incredible Journey-style film about a cartoon cat but more ninety minutes of panic and dread. Genuinely the most stressful film I’ve ever seen.

this is exactly right. it's weird to see people clinging to the cultural logic of the academic star system (reminiscent of the 80s-90s) while others deal with the messy realities of infrastructural collapse and maintenance work on human systems.

DO. NOT. BUY. THE. AI. HYPE. I cannot stress it enough. I know your grad schools are teaching it, I know there are content/tech jobs in it, and I know you're using it. But for the love of fuck, run the opposite direction.

We badly need as many “future of the regional public university” essays and “criticism and the community college” symposia as we can get (so long as they’re written by scholars at those institutions).

The sudden geopolitical relevance of Milan street signs.

Beer and weights at the brewery closing-down event - I do love this city sometimes.

This is one thing @spacebetween.bsky.social has been doing really quite well, I think.

evergreen

I shall miss playing pool on the world’s worst table in one of my favourite breweries, which is closing after today.

North London’s only solo Madness tribute show has handed out fezzes. (To be fair, he’s very good)

A piece I've wanted to read ever since I heard of her fascination with the subject. Sally Rooney in superb form, on Ronnie O'Sullivan and the darkly mysterious, mathematical glamour of snooker at its best. www.nybooks.com/articles/202...

Go hang out with these awesome people!

Registration is OPEN for our 2025 Confernece in Lawrence, KS. It will remain open until May 1, 2025. We look forward to seeing you at this year's conference: Peace and Conflict in the Space Between! spacebetweensociety.com/2025-confere...

Good morning, please have this incredibly jaunty London Underground tourism poster from 1915.

The first MSA 2025 CFP deadline is in just ten days, and this account won't shut up about it until all the deadlines have passed! So don't forget to submit proposals for workshops and seminars by MARCH 15. Panel, individual paper, and roundtable proposals are due in exactly one month on APRIL 5.

Spring feels like it’s here - beautiful weather, and that first strange tired feeling as my allergies go ‘Ooh - hello again tree pollen!’.

Spotted on campus this morning. Thanks to the person who posted this.

Gool Peran Lowen! Happy St Piran’s Day!

"Flow" won the Oscar for Best Animated Film ♡

I love this building and this view.

Always nice to walk through here.

I have questions.

old Soviet joke for our times: Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to. Guy says: “looking for an obituary.” Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.” Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

Carajillo anís, perhaps the world’s most dangerous breakfast drink.

I always forget how good this hotel looks.

I’ve won a bet of one (1) drink with my brother by not being noticed by our father whilst I was tailing him on a flight to Barcelona. This was thanks to my cunning disguise.

Cutting things fine, I've just submitted the manuscript for Songs of Seven Dials: An intimate history of 1920s and 1930s London to @manchesterup.bsky.social. Which seems a good moment to notice that the book has made its way into the virtual world. manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9781526181954/

"What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?"

COFIWCH DREWERYN!

‘WHO PUT BELLA IN THE WYCH ELM?’

What my brother puts as payment reference is… unusual.

You said that, you graceless inarticulate faketan combover meatsack. You said that.

Obscurely cheered by learning that the Jacobite heir to the throne, the 91-year old Francis II, is openly gay.

Western Front historians: the terrain was flat and muddy. Eastern Front historians: the terrain was flat and snowy. Mesopotamia historians: the terrain was flat and sandy. Italian Front historians: 😩

Ooorrrr, and here me out, you eat as much meat as you like, but you commit to fire bombing the HQ of at least 1 fossil fuel corpration a month?
