To those that argue stoicism suggests refraint from politics, to you, I say: Is political action not action? The stoic aims to align ALL actions with virtue, both public and private. A good father raises his son, as a good citizen labors for his fellow man. Selflessly, and with pride.

Stoicism is NOT lack of emotion. Stoicism is feeling the pang of fear, then pausing to say... How do I respond to this with virtue? Wisdom? Courage? How do I not lose myself to impulse. Fear is as natural as the face flushing on a hot day. It's the next moment, the action after, that defines us

"We often suffer more in imagination than in reality," teaches the ageless Seneca. It is easy to sink into the mire of catastrophe, but ask yourself. Have I truly been harmed? Have I been beaten? Am I restrained? If the answer is no, you still have all you need to act. So do so with virtue.

"Whoever journeys to a tyrant's court becomes his slave, although he went there a free man." Current times remind us that capitulation to tyranny is a conscious choice. We each have a chance to regard the tyrant, their actions, and to say, "I will be above you, though you may sit on a throne."

To those who think changing one's mind is unwise, I am reminded of the ageless Diogenes. When confronted on his transition to cynicism, he remarked, as you should to those that try to keep you stagnant: "There was a time when I pissed in my own bed too, but not any longer."

"Fear silences the power of the law." Courage, adherence to virtue, and a willingness to stand up for your fellow citizens of the earth are crucial in our current time. Do not succumb to fear. Instead, fallback on courage and temperance. Moderate your emotions, so you may strike with a steady hand.

There is nothing wrong with money, but the riches of your life are not measured by it.

Every circumstance represents opportunity. Oppression is a chance to practice courage. Chaos a chance to hone peace. A person is only as strong as their sparring partner. Like a boxer in the ring, do not step back from difficulty, confront it, and use it as a whetstone to sharpen your resolve.
