A shrine to Phillies relievers in the place where you relieve yourself. Potty humor, mustache jokes & bad puns. Sometimes even a little more than that.

Legendary Match-Up: Ball State. vs. Sac State. It was truly nuts. 🥜🥜

Spring training unofficially began with Jesús Luzardo and Andrew Painter throwing a football around. Luzardo said he’s full-go, on schedule this spring. Aaron Nola cut his hair. José Alvarado lost some weight. It’s 76 degrees.

Today is the 42nd day of the year. We all know that Toby Borland is the last #Phillies player to wear #42. We give the nod to that Robinson guy b/c he did some great things but we all know why MLB really retired the number. The more Borland cards the better.

Today is the 42nd day of the year. We all know that Toby Borland is the last #Phillies player to wear #42 & is the real reason that MLB retired #42. Yes that is me in my kitchen holding Toby's game worn cleat. Remember this epic unveiling @tylerkepner.bsky.social?

An all-Relief Room grid today

Go Bird!

Didn’t think today would be worse for anyone than Drake but Mahomes is really making a case for it

Happy RR birthday to Cy Moore born today in 1905! He appeared in 71G for the 1933-34 #Phillies & was mostly average. He was born before the internet & telephones & Tupperware & labradoodles. Hell, Cy died before labradoodles were invented. Invented? Breeded? Concocted? Whatever, happy birthday Cy!

Next stop: bathroom shrine immortality

Today in Relief Room history 1962 the Phillies announced that Robin Roberts's uniform number 36 would be retired by the team on March 21 making it the 1st number retired by the Phils. He also has the 1st statue to ever be in a pic with a guy wearing Tom Hume's face on his shirt. Truly rare air.

Happy RR birthday to Bill Dawley born today in 1958! Dawley never started a G in his MLB career which we love. His B-Ref Similarity Score has him likened to Warren Brusstar & Mike Proly & that's good company. Speaking of good company, check out Whitey & Mike Maddux chilling in the background.

Cool baseball accounts that you should follow go.bsky.app/SWk88cy

Office Space (1999)

I’ll miss you Jeff

Today in RR history 1946 Frank Hoerst was formally discharged from the Navy w/ the rank of lieutenant. He played his entire career w/ the #Phillies w/ a 3+ year military break. He was probably a better basketball player but the NBA didn't exist yet. He did go on to ref in the early days of the NBA.

Today in Relief Room history 1997 the #Phillies purchase Scott Ruffcorn from CWS. The former 1st rounder was terrible in his 18G here. In fact, he played in 30 MLB games & his team lost each one. All this despite how damned dapper he looks in this Draft Pick card. Topps really should do these again.

It's surprising that nobody wrote in Jeanmar Gomez or Pat Neshek or Edubray Ramos. The Relief Room is clearly just more prestigious than Cooperstown. @tylerkepner.bsky.social knows.

1/9/79 It's January Draft Day and the Phillies select Mark Davis with the top pick. Two years later they send him and Mike Krukow to the Giants for Al Holland and Joe Morgan. After that, he's dealt to the Padres where he wins a Cy Young.

Today we honor #CupOfCoffee pitcher Dick Thoenen Born on this Date 1944 January 09. He was half of a DUAL CupOfCoffee card, shared with fellow 1-game pitcher (and author) Larry Colton. This Card is definitely one of those great Vintage Hidden Gems. and a @thereliefroom.bsky.social highlight

Happy Relief Room birthday to Dick Thoenen born today in 1944! He had exactly 1 ML appearance & threw 1IP, facing 5 batters. He is 1 of 4 current RR inductees that attended Notre Dame so I imagine he'll be celebrating by tailgating at the Orange Bowl, funneling beers in the parking lot & the such.

Today in Relief Room history 1951 Jim Konstanty is voted the AP Athlete of the Year by a sizable margin over Vic Janowicz (Heisman Trophy winner), heavyweight champ Ezzard Charles, Phil Rizzuto (AL MVP), & golfers Ben Hogan & Sam Snead. MVP, AP award, bathroom shrine immortality. He has it all.

Today in Relief Room history 1979 the #Phillies select Mark Davis w/ the 1st pick of the amateur draft. Sure he would win a Cy Young w/ SD & not the Phils but are there any Friars fans out there w/ his face on their bathroom walls? I think we all know the answer to that. Advantage: Phillies.

Today in Relief Room history 1974 the #Phillies select Warren Brusstar in the 4th Rd of the Amateur Draft. This was his 4th time drafted but hadn't signed. This time he did. He must've known that bathroom shrine immortality awaited him. Handsome, hirsute AND precocious. Wow, what a combo!

Hello old friend

Today in Relief Room history 2008 Steve Ridzik passes away. Ridz spent 107G w/ the #Phillies in 2 different stints, both beginning & ending his career in red stripes. He posted a 3.64ERA & 110ERA+ but he did start 28G. That's more about his era so we'll let it slide on this anniversary of his death.

Today is January 8th. 1.08 is Brad Moore's career #Phillies ERA. He appeared in 8G in his MLB career, all w/ the Phils & posted a 371ERA+ to go w/ that sterling ERA. Numbers like that plus that beautiful blonde mustache should've earned him a longer look. He'll always have The Relief Room at least.

Happy Relief Room birthday to Jeff Francoeur born today in 1984! Remember in 2015 when Frenchy pitched in a blowout to BAL & Ryne Sandberg left him in too long? Chase Utley even barked at Bob McClure from the field. Ah the mid to late teen #Phillies teams. What a beautiful disaster.

Happy Relief Room birthday to Jesus Hernaiz born today in 1945! His 27G career was spent w/ the 74 #Phillies & he mostly stunk. He even had 3 errors in his 13 fielding opps. But he is beautiful, as evidenced by these wonderful pics & cards. Plus Jesus Saves man, Jesus Saves.

Happy Relief Room birthday to James Russell born today in 1986! He played in 7G for the 2016 #Phillies at the end of his career & wasn't great. But he is married to Bobby Witt Jr's sister & that is pretty great. And the long hair/beard combo is underrated as far as I'm concerned. Happy day good sir!

So many future Relief Room members here!

Yes I have a custom built Dan Schatzeder mustache comb and yes it is signed by the one and only Dan Schatzeder.
