#SONAF workshop led by @ananovoaperez.bsky.social is over, and so is iSnowman made by @theresahenke.bsky.social :(

Getting ready for the second #SoNAF meeting in winter wonderland 🤩❄️ @iris-eeza.bsky.social @invaculture.net @ibotcz.bsky.social

Check out our newest post on @icefishresearch.bsky.social :)

The third day of the culturomics & iEcology workshop had a snowy twist ❄️ Meet #iSnowman ☃️

🗨️ "In the case of #biological #invasions, we can learn a lot from those who are directly confronted by an #invasive #species, regardless of whether they have a #scientific degree or not," - @theresahenke.bsky.social about her study published in @neobiota.pensoft.net. #InvasiveSpecies #ecology

Great discussions, amazing people, and exciting new perspectives at the Invasion Culturomics Workshop! 🌍 Happy to be part of this event in Průhonice, Czech Republic! #InvasionScience #Culturomics #ScienceMeetsCulture

Have you ever wondered about the relationship between humans and the ocean?🐟 Today we would like to introduce you to Catherine Chambers (@coastalcultureice.bsky.social)🐟 Learn more about her exciting research: www.icefishresearch.com/2025/02/07/p... #IceFishResearch #FishIceland

I got asked to write a blog post on the @pensoft.net / @neobiota.pensoft.net blog talking about including the human dimension in the research on biological invasions as well as my experience working with the recreational angling community in Iceland during my PhD 🙂

Recreational fishers in Iceland play a key role in tracking the spread of the alien European flounder - local knowledge and social media can play a key role in invasive species monitoring. doi.org/10.3897/neob...

Happy that my 2nd PhD paper is officially published in @neobiota.pensoft.net 🐟 Looking at flounder, we highlight the value of stakeholder observations in the monitoring of alien species 🐟🇮🇸 neobiota.pensoft.net/article/1323... @fishiceland.bsky.social @hlynurb.bsky.social @mfri.bsky.social

Of all the #flounder things I received throughout the last years, this is gonna be my favourite ❤️🐟

Fish eggs are not only tasty to us but also to other fish. To make sure the next generation survives salmonids make sure their eggs are safe by dropping them between stones 🥚 #icefishresearch #fishiceland #infographic

2 weeks since I defended my PhD... 2 weeks of "Dr. Flounder" 🐟 #PhDone A big thank you to @fishiceland.bsky.social & my committee (@hlynurb.bsky.social), I could't have done this without you! & thank you @ivanjaric.bsky.social & Skúli Skúlason for an exciting discussion during my defense🐟👽

We are so proud of @theresahenke.bsky.social who successfully defended her PhD on the establishment of the European flounder in Icelandic waters yesterday. She did a wonderful job! Congratulations, Theresa. And all the best with your future endeavours! 🔥 #phd #phdjourney #phdone #flounder

✨PhDone✨ #Dr.Flounder

The time has come 🤓🇮🇸🐟 I will be defending my PhD on Thursday at 13 GMT. If you want to hear me talk about flounder (once again) and all the fun things I did over the past five years, tune in for the life stream: eu01web.zoom.us/j/67667648639 @fishiceland.bsky.social

Happy new year!!! & Bring it on, 2025 🎉❤️ Kicking off the year with defending my PhD next week 👀🐟🇮🇸

Check out the Icelandic holiday tradition of eating skate :)

I was not prepared for the emotions that apparently come with sending your #PhDthesis to the printers... ❤️🤓🥺🤣

When one team member has relocated to Spain from Argentina and one from Iceland... Can you tell?🥶🥵

Looking forward to this view next week and spending some time Ísafjörður again :)

Excited to have been part of this paper with @fishiceland.bsky.social and @coastalcultureice.bsky.social 🐟 Check out our infographic & blog post over at @icefishresearch.bsky.social & the paper: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

IRIS is starting the new week with coffee & work from the beach :) @zarahpattison.bsky.social, want to join us for a Maricastaña monday? :)

Our newest spotlight is on Marion Dellinger, who has just defended her PhD thesis!! Find out more about her & her work on Arctic charr & fish behaviours: www.icefishresearch.com/2024/11/28/m... Congratulations Marion!! #IceFishResearch #ResearchLife #FishIceland

Food for thought :) @theresahenke.bsky.social

The excitement of seeing your name officially up on the office door 🤓

Today, we had our first (of hopefully many) weekly IRIS team meetings to get to know each other & catch up on our projects, progresses and potential mishaps 🙂 We can’t wait to see where all our projects will lead to & what new ideas will come up in these meetings. Stay tuned!

🤩 Presenting our extended Editors-in-Chief team! 🙌 NOT ONE, but FOUR leading experts in the field of #invasion #biology: @ananovoaperez.bsky.social, @tbrresearch.bsky.social, Philip Hulme and Andrew “Sandy” Liebhold recently joined @ingolfkuehn.bsky.social! 👉More: blog.pensoft.net/2024/11/21/n...

Good morning ☕🌴

SARS_CoV_2 maybe the most important biological invasion of our lifetime But infectious human diseases are rarely treated as Biological Invasions Collaborations between medical researchers & ecologists are vital to preventing future outbreaks #bioinvasions #biosecurity #onehealth #covid

2 new team members decided to join us in Almeria all the way from South America 🌞 Paula Gervazoni from Argentina is the newest researcher at IRIS & Jonathan Almeida is a visiting PhD student from Brazil 🌱 ⬇️ In our preferred habitat: the IRIS team in front of invasive Pennisetum setaceum

One of the silliest arguments that I found in favor of invasive species is that they "increase biodiversity" 1000 new invasive species do not compensate for the extinction of one native species!! #bioinvasions

In September @theresahenke.bsky.social officially joined the IRIS team After living in Iceland for the past 8 years & studying alien 🐟, she has decided to switch it up and trade the Nordic cold for the Mediterranean sunshine 🌞 Stay tuned for more news: iriseeza.com/news/
