How many in Europe have died because of the sacrosanct “fiscal rules” limiting spending on health, housing, and infrastructure? Did those people not deserve protection?

Happy what even is a shrove day to all who celebrate

Happy for Sean Baker, who is a true devotee to the joy and art of making movies.

Nobody thinks of themselves as workers anymore. Only consumers.

The general sentiment here is correct, but DEI was never a genuine social justice demand and was only ever a corporate slogan, and pretending otherwise is to position the argument on the right’s terms.

More convinced every day that British and American conservatives are primarily motivated by envy of the former colonial subject. They want so bad to have a proud history of militant liberation to draw on. What ancestors does Darren mean? Has he invented them?

The problem here, as it always has been, is a commitment to gender essentialism.

No one says “especial” anymore. A forgotten word

Gene Hackman was 95 but his wife was only 63…Dog was probably younger again.

There’s been a lot of talk recently about tariffs. But what’s the big deal? Does protectionist policy really make Trump a deranged fascist, or are we all just drunk on neoliberal hegemony? New ep out now, wherever ya get your pods x open.spotify.com/episode/3tJO...

This is a funny tweet because it implies there is some sort of consensus amongst historians regarding whether Trump is a fascist or not. There absolutely is not.

When I worked in UK academia I recall hearing of a Japanese man who was baffled at how Britain had decided to run its universities like firms. “Why? Your universities are excellent and your firms are terrible.”

Damn, RIP to a great

If ever there was a reason to support rent pressure zones

“England” fans would never understand this but … where have all the international breaks gone? Dying to see Ireland play a competitive match. And now I see that between March and September there won’t be any either?

This is so real.

Watched Naked (1993) last night. That’s a nasty film. What’s all that about then

I find this very moving: a 10-year-old Ukrainian boy who moved to the West of Ireland 2 years ago as a refugee, speaking in Irish of his love of playing Irish music

Seen some "well it's easy for Sinn Féin to decide not go to America, they aren't part of the government" sentiments around Because there's nothing a certain sort of Irish person loves more than forgetting Northern Ireland exists

What in the Sleepy Joe—

Sorry … this is still going on??

Mhhhhhhhh

If I had the time, it would be really interesting to delve into the opposition to later hours. It would be a really good exploration of where power lies in society, I think.

Important coverage but I have to say this: it is not “unprecedented”. This has been Germany ever since Oct 2023. I’m glad Albanese is shedding further light on the repression by virtue of her international stature, but come on.

Pro tip: if someone uses the terms “Left” and “liberals” interchangeably like this, you never have to take anything they say seriously ever again.

Any Liam O’Flaherty fans out there? Where’s a good place to start?

The Fall are the best because I can feasibly say they’re my favourite band of all time and also that I’ve never even listened to the album that this song is on

Just disgusting and indefensible given our current social crises. Rotten

A random man came up to us in Street 66 last night to tell us that JD Vance’s speech “really spoke to him”

Oh we are so back

From the new Richard Dawson album. There’s nobody else doing it like him

Not a single footballer currently playing that possesses 10% of what Cantona had

moe is back

What does he mean by this
