#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day. Feb 9th 1944 the first Black woman to win to have her own television show was jazz musician Ethel Waters. She was the second black American nominated for an academy award and the first Black woman for the Primetime Emmy Award.

#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day. Feb 9th 1944 the first Black woman to win a Pulitzer Prize for fiction was born. Alice Walker, who is 81, is a social activist, author and poet. She is best known for her book: The Color Purple. 1/2

#BlackHistoryMonth fact of the day. Did you know a black man invented the three signal traffic light? Garrett Morgan was an Black American inventor who while driving in Cleveland decided it could be safer and invented traffic lights. He also invented a "smoke hood" or gas mask in 1916.
