The Cure have released a live LP for their shows at The Troxy, containing of all of the songs from their recent 'Songs of a Lost World' album. All of the royalties from this release go the to the War Child charity. A worthy cause.

On this day in 1980, legendary AC/DC front man Bon Scott passed away. What better way of remembering the great man than with a quick blast of the rarities disc in this rather impressive box set. A nice touch but not only making the box look like an amp, it is an amp. Not the loudest at one amp.

Its time to delve back into the rather fertile world of covers of Harry Nilsson songs. This guy was such a great songwriter, it is a shame that he is best known for his covers of other people material. www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/various-arti...

War Child is a charity that was set up in 1993 in response to the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. A charity album was released with the songs being recorded in a single day. It raised over £1 million in the process. An EP was also released containing three songs not included on the parent LP.

It is nice to kick back & relax with a bit vinyl turning on the deck. Today, I thought it would be great to give Tiny Ruins' latest LP a spin, the wonderful Ceremony.

The first four singles by Suede we are brilliant. The B-Sides weren't too shabby either. My Insatiable One, The Big Time, High Rising etc. It was like there was a second LP hidden in plain sight.

Over Christmas, I found out that my good friend & regular contributor to the Squire podcasts had passed away. In memory of him & our shared love of The Beatles, I have complied a second volume of Rarities based upon the 1978 original. www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/the-beatles-...

Passengers was a pseudonym of U2 & Brian Eno as a side project. The accompanying film was made during the siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian war & included footage of a beauty pageant. The winner was 17 year old Inela Nogić, who was pictured on the front cover of the single.

In 1967, The Beach Boys performed a couple of concerts in Hawaii with the view of releasing the results as a live LP. Well, it didn't go quite to plan. Well, what if if had been? www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/the-beach-bo...

The first Blur record I ever bought. It is a shame that it did not include the French version of the A-Side which included vocals from the legendary Françoise Hardy.

I came across Lissie in 2010 when here In Dreams song was single of the week on itunes. Instantly looked to buy up all of her previous work, including Why You Runnin', her earliest released on vinyl. I love the way the disc is the same colour at the sun on the front cover picture. Great music too.

There was almost a sixth Talk Talk album called Mountains of the Moon that ended up being released as a Mark Hollis solo record. This is a compilation of all of the more experimental works that Hollis & the band released spread over two CDs. www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/talk-talk-mo...

Today has involved checking out some Paul Weller 12" singles I have in the collection. Hung Up was initially a stand alone single before being placed on the reissues of the Wild Wood LP. Shame that the price sticker caused a bit of damage to the cover. Great Portishead remix of Wild Wood as well.

Between The Final Cut in 1983 & A Momentary Lapse of Reason in 1987, new products from Pink Floyd were a bit thin on the ground. What if their record company decided to fill the void with a compilation made up of singles, ratites & an unreleased song? www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/pink-floyd-m...

David Bowie was on 8th January 1947 & had a very eclectic career. This included musician, songwriter, actor & mime artist. He didn’t release much experimental jazz during his career, but ‘Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)’ which was released in 2014 is an example of this.

Before they released their classic debut LP, The Stone Roses released a couple of singles. Sally Cinnamon was the second, released on a one off deal with FM Revolver sub label, Black. Before they released their classic debut LP, The Stone Roses released a couple of singles. This was the second.

Comedy records are a lost artform these days but here is an example of a classics of the craft. Produced by George Martin, this includes the classic ‘Balham – Gateway to the South’ sketch. Getting the jokes on the other sketches would need a thorough understanding of late 1950’s British culture.

Cherry Red Records have released so much archive material by founding member of Genesis, Anthony Phillips, that I wondered if it would be possible to compile what could have been a debut LP from 1975. @antpmusic.bsky.social www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/anthony-phil...

It is the end of another year so it is time for another selection of fake LP covers. More can be found on the blog. www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/imaginary-al...

This Jimi Hendrix Christmas/New Year related release is another example of barrel scraping from the Hendrix estate. A studio jam around three holiday related songs might have been a good way to loosen up, but I'm sure Hendrix himself would have said this is not worthy of release.

The Squire Presents podcast returns with his look back at his favourite record purchases of the last 12 months along with guest Darryl Bullock. www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/episode-106-...

1964 was another busy year for The Beach Boys. They even had time to produce enough material for a Christmas album. Here is a box set compiling the sessions for that LP. www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/the-beach-bo...

Apart from the usual Christmas songs, what better way to celebrate this time of year than listen to a record named after an activity a lot of people will be participating in. I do wish Anteros had released more records.

Four years is a long time in music, especially when the movement you were associated with has been replaced. Elastica took so long to follow up their mega selling first LP that their moment had passed which is a shame as there are some good moments on this EP.

All the classic theme tunes from some of Gerry Andersons' best shows. Thunderbirds Are Go!!!

When I posted the white version of this album by The Cure in November, I said I hoped that it wouldn't be 16 until the next one. Well, this isn't quite what I meant. The second disc is the LP again but instrumental versions. I wish the band had released this originally and not a month or so later.

So, all good things must come to an end & with it being December, this will be my last Britpop related post in a year that has celebrated 30 since it all kicked off. @britpopmemories.bsky.social www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/various-arti...

Lick were one of the few Britpop bands with an openly gay member. Gigs were attended by members of Suede & Elastica, with their a bit on the nose single Shirtlifter showing influence from the former. Stand Up was a great single but their image was not in keeping with the laddish nature of Britpop.

With the end of the year rolling in, I am posting my last few Britpop themed playlists. I have posted two from 1997, but this one covers 1998. Enjoy. @britpopmemories.bsky.social www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/various-arti...

The most recent edition of London Cyclist magazine has published an article I wrote about cycling in the Lingfield area of Surrey. It was adapted from my book, Cycling in Surrey which is available from Bradt Guides. A perfect stocking filler for Christmas. www.bradtguides.com/product/cycl...

I do like a bit of Smoke Fairies on my turntable. This EP was released for Record Store Day in 2012 & it could be the only 9" bit of vinyl in my collection.

With The Stone Roses second LP having come out 30 years ago today, I thought I would give this, the first single from that album a spin. What a track. Still sounds amazing to this day.

Mixing rock & dance, Ready To Go by Republic was a late entry in the Britpop cannon. Always great to have a 10" single on the turntable & it still sounds great today.

Back in August and September, I posted a couple of playlists of non Britpop artists which covered the years 1994 to 1997. For my money, these are the years of Britpop. Here is a collection of non Britpop songs from 1993. www.thesquirepresents.co.uk/various-arti...
