This meeting could have been a walk in the sunshine

Anyways....I finished grinding my telescope lens with the 30μ grit today. Very excited for when I finally get to aluminize, but heavily anticipating the final boss that is parabolizing the final shape.

I feel like this entire semester has been like...everyone crashing out. There's a professor on leave rn and honestly I am so envious. Too much madness afoot.

It's becoming ever clearer to me that the main issue is not that of maliciousness, but one of apathy/complacency. For every one person who is truly filled with hatred, there seem to be five more that just want to keep their heads down, more annoyed at people who speak up than the perpetrators.

Happy 35th Birthday to #Hubble: long may you continue gathering precious photons! With the help of Masters students here in Leicester, here's seasonal #Uranus over a quarter century (1995-2020), evolving from southern summer (1986), through equinox (2007), on to northern summer (2030) [📷 NASA/ESA]

I'm up early studying for my last test this week, and I'm using Severance as a reward. I have learned that the stress threshold for me crashing out appears to be pretty low. Looking into this,,,

The evidence for biosignatures on K2-18b is flimsy, at best Last week, Cambridge scientists announced the discovery of DMS and DMDS on K2-18b: what they call a "surefire biosignature." Now, cut through the hype and get to the truth. bigthink.com/starts-with-... #space #astronomy #science

"Trans people have always existed" That's simply not possible because people haven't always existed. There was a time before people, and so therefore, there was a time before trans people. And in that time, there were trans dinosaurs.

Tutolo et al. use the Curiosity rover on Mars to analyse rock drill samples. They identify abundant siderite (iron carbonate), indicating atmospheric carbon dioxide was incorporated into the rocks. The results provide evidence of an ancient carbon cycle. 🧪 #planetsci www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Jewish classmates of Mohsen Mahdawi speak out— One, an IDF refuser, recalls how Mohsen met with Zionists, including those cruel to him—or how, while seeking to heal campus, he even expressed sympathy for administrators (the same who ignored his pleas for help). "Most profound person I've ever met"

New species alert! 🦎🧪 We (myself, Glenn Shea, Stephen Richards and Paul Oliver) just published a description of a fantastic new species of Prasinohaema from New Guinea. A short thread:
