In Slavic lore, Bolotnitsa, is a female swamp spirit, the most remarkable description of which was made in 1874 by Pavel Melnikov-Pechersky: in his novel "In the Forests" he characterized Bolotnitsa as a malicious beautiful young lady with the black legs of a goose. #swampsunday #dailyspooklore

Among the East Slavs, it was customary to dump clothes and belongings of those died of unnatural causes into the swamp, so they wouldn’t come back. #swampsunday #dailyspooklore #folklore Image: Olga Kai

#CaribbeanMatters: Happy birthday to slaveholder George Washington I’m not and never will be a celebrant of Washington’s birth. I will never forget that he was a slaveholder. Eleven other U.S. presidents also enslaved people during their lifetimes www.dailykos.com/stories/2025...

George Washington sold men he enslaved to the West Indies for punishment. Given the harsh treatment of enslaved people there – it was a death sentence (and he knew it)

I'm curious if others research local weeds. What family are they in? Do they have various uses, folklore? Dollarweed or Pennywort (Hydrocotyle spp.) grows abundantly in my area of Georgia. It's considered a pest for those who want a lush turf lawn, & a friend to others. #WitchSky #Herbs #FolkWitch
