One of my biggest peeves is complaints that “nobody’s doing X.” First, you’re probably wrong. Lots of people are doing whatever X is—getting out on the streets, protesting, boycotting, changing consumer habits. Second, if you were right, you could literally do it. Be the first. Be a catalyst.

And white actors (and filmmakers) get more forgiveness for duds and shortcomings than their Black contemporaries. A Black actor with a solid early filmography makes a dud or two and get written off forever, even tho the dud usually was the result of a lack of opportunities.
