“I couldn’t help feeling turned off by the guys who called themselves ‘dopeless hope-fiends.’ I was more comfortable with the skeptics at the back of the class. The guys who’d whisper ‘Don’t relapse without me’ after the meeting.” An excerpt of @garthmullins.bsky.social’s new book “Crackdown.”

When the sawmills closed in Vanderhoof and Fort St. John last year, hundreds of jobs were lost. The closures underscore a long downturn in logging jobs as climate change, invasive beetles and high U.S. tariffs on softwood lumber push forestry employers out of B.C. @isaacphannay.bsky.social reports.

“I’ve never experienced so much emotion at the doorstep.” Voters have a choice, said Green Party co-leader Elizabeth May. “People who are afraid either of Donald Trump or Pierre Poilievre, just take a deep breath and choose the candidate that you think will do the best job.” #CdnElxn2025

Longtime Tyee readers may remember way back when the political nerds in our newsroom cooked up a lighthearted way to have some fun with our political leaders. We figured politicians play with us all the time, so how about we play back? thetyee.ca/About/Nation...

Having failed to win over voters’ minds with his plans and promises, the new game for Pierre Poilievre will be to trash Mark Carney — the classic far-right politics of personal destruction. The process has already begun. Michael Harris writes. #CdnElxn2025
