Ramadan is approaching! This fragment is from an Abbasid Qur’an manuscript (MS Add.1111), likely written in the 9th or 10th century CE. ⬇️ #Ramadan #Quran #IslamicManuscripts #CambridgeUniversityLibrary

Our photographer Raffaella Losito is hard at work capturing promotional images for the upcoming #CuriousCures exhibition at the UL! More information on the new exhibition: www.lib.cam.ac.uk/exhibitioncu... Photos © Raffaella Losito © Blazej Mikula

A nice duck egg blue 18th-century ribbon bookmark bound in this copy of Moses Harris’s ‘The Aurelian: or, natural history of English insects; namely, moths and butterflies. Together with the plants on which they feed’ (London, 1766 [1773]). MH.8.13 @theulspeccoll.bsky.social @theul.bsky.social

Excited to be looking at Maria Merian’s ‘Metamorphosis insectorum surinamensium’ (1705) for events around the launch of the @camglamresearch.bsky.social Natural History Humanities initiative. But also freaking out in case I turn to the page with the giant spiders. MH.2.22 @theul.bsky.social

There are lots of great things about @theul.bsky.social but I often think the single best one is the way the lights shine through the windows when it’s getting dark!

#OnThisDay in 1516, Mary I was born. Was she really the bloodthirsty queen of popular myth? @lucyworsley.bsky.social recently visited the UL to consult our copy of “Historia ecclesiastica” by Pedro de Ribadeneyra, a Spanish priest who met Mary and gives a different account. CUL F158.e.8.6 (1588)

So pleased I finally made it to the fantastic Endless Stories exhibition at Cambridge UL today. Slightly off topic but - aside from a couple of Bedwell MSS - this doodle study of a cat was a real highlight…

Love knows no bounds...or species...? Happy Valentine's Day from the world of medieval romance! Images are from CUL MS Ff.1.27, a miscellany of texts originating at the Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds. See it in the Cambridge Digital Library: loom.ly/joTgwvE. #MedievalMemes

We've really enjoyed all the chocolate chat. Our Crunchie wrapper was stashed behind some books in the late 1960s. It fell down the back of the shelves and was trapped under the bookshelf, meaning it could stay hidden for over 50 years!

Our core digital services are fully operational again! Apollo (the University’s institutional repository), the Cambridge Digital Library and ArchiveSearch (our archive management system) are all functioning normally. Thank you for your patience.

Detail of a pretty floral cloth binding for ‘Chansons de France pour les petits français / avec accompagnements de J.B. Weckerlin. Illustrations par M.B. de Monvel’ (Paris, [1901]). Waddleton.c.4.63 @theul.bsky.social

Ok, it’s time to ‘fess up. Who ate a Fry’s Crunchie bar in the UL and hid the wrapper behind some books? Mark in our facilities team got a surprise when he unearthed this chocolate relic recently. Who can help us date it? #CambridgeUniversityLibrary #Cambridge

It’s #LGBTQHistoryMonth and on 25th Feb we’ve got @lejhouston.bsky.social coming to the Really Popular Book Club to talk about Detransition Baby by Torrey Peters. Free, online, open to all - come and join us @theul.bsky.social www.lib.cam.ac.uk/whats/really... #LGBTQHM #LGBTplusHM25
