crazy triage - ext4 `readdir` optimizes by caching the entries in a hashed b-tree, with a specific "directory hash seed" - since all nodes in a nodepool are spun off a single "base image", thereby same ext4 partition parameters, the hash seed is the same. guess what happens when the seed changes

story time. about a year ago, i noticed that a daily cost export I had setup had magically vanished. i noticed it a couple weeks after the fact, and figured the vendor's probably messing it up. i went ahead and created a new export named "root-DO-NOT-DELETE", and it's still live a year later.
