1. Here are just a few of the ways in which Starmer’s Labour Party seems determined to alienate its voters and lose the next election. As they pile up, you have to keep pinching yourself and asking, “what the hell is it playing at?” 🧵

Shame on Met police LIES and shame on all political parties who oppress the TRUTH This is why we need more @greenparty.org.uk politicians in Parliament, the Assembly, and local councils. Because they speak to truth to power and stand for justice and accountability. You can be part of that.

Food for thought.

I'm not sure why the sea surface temperature of the sub polar region of the North Atlantic (the region just South of Greenland) is spiking, but it is.

There is no evidence that Keir Starmer believes Palestinian life has any worth.

Why is our taxpayer's money going to the Royals in so many ways? Empty Dartmoor prison pays Prince William’s Duchy £1.5m a year & has another 24 years left on its lease Charities which the Royals are patrons of also pay millions to them in rent Make it make sense www.thetimes.com/article/ddf3...

Consistent with so many surveys over the last few years. The UK public overwhelmingly expect the government to treat climate change as a priority.

Sunset: I’m going to be stunning tonight! Sunrise: Hold my beer..😏✨

I note Newsnight doing a Farage /Reform promo on Newsnight.

Did you miss the C3S Climate Bulletin? 🌡️ After November data, 2024 is virtually certain to become the warmest year on record. ❄️ Antarctic sea ice extent: Record low for November, 10% below average Read the summary: climate.copernicus.eu/2024-track-b... #CopernicusClimate #C3S

This has always been my worst fear about climate change: the worse it gets, the more geopolitical chaos it causes; the more geopolitical chaos there is, the harder it is to cooperate to fight climate change. theconversation.com/a-doom-loop-...

Absolutely @danielrolphauthor.bsky.social When I was growing up we had no money to buy books. All I had was my local library. I spent hundreds of hours in it. But for that library I might never have become a lawyer. A thousand of them were closed under successive Conservative Governments

Next week, Nadhim Zahawi's former libel lawyer is being prosecuted by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority for misconduct. It's a public hearing, and anyone can attend, in person or via Zoom. A quick thread.

Huge boss bonuses and sewage spills, Thames Water are killing themselves. Time to end the misery, nationalise now!

Barrage of Israeli attacks destroys ‘important military sites in Syria’ Some 250 Israeli air strikes have hit Syria in 48 hours Why is this illegal aggression not being widely reported? Not the best way to help Syrians reach a peaceful future www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/12...

The government’s ongoing refusal to engage with reality in the criminal justice system, while trotting out the same tabloid-pleasing headlines as its predecessors, is having catastrophic effects, day after day. The guilty acquitted, the innocent convicted, victims and defendants failed.

The Conservative Government were a disaster for this country. But the Labour Government are not willing to work on the real solutions for meaningful change. This will hit the poorest communities hardest and contribute further to the chaos. This afternoon in the Assembly. 👇🏼

“This is big news, and is part of the Scottish government’s wider commitment to tackling child poverty. Labour has been too slow to act here.” 💬 Ruth Patrick writes about why Keir Starmer's government must follow Scotland in its decision. ✍️ ⬇️ https://buff.ly/3ZE47qp

Should we be worried that 2025 begins with "wtf"

Seagrasses sequester up to 18 percent of carbon stored in the ocean, capturing it 35 times faster than tropical rainforests. But the natural meadows of eelgrass—the most common type of seagrass found along the East Coast of the U.S.—are vanishing.

Long thread that's WELL worth reading if you want a little more insight into the nitty gritty of climate science

For the first few decades of satellite observations, open water passages through the Arctic Ocean rarely formed. Now, there is open water along the Russian and/or Canadian coast for 40+ days a year.

We're terrified about the #ClimateEmergency & taking nonviolent action to raise the alarm! 📸 5 ordinary people were arrested today for asking A&O Shearman; a fossil fuel enabling law firm to #CutTheTies with big oil. Without them the #fossilfuel machine would grind to a halt!

Usually I don't post things older than the late Palaeolithic period, but #insects embedded in amber never cease to amaze me - the sheer age! This ant preserved in its finest detail is some 50-million-year old. Found in Gujarat, India. Photo: University of Bonn

Ok, here's an important question. What do we call posts on this site? ● Skeets ● Blues ● Flutters ● Posts Or something else?

In the UK, Farage has decided to take the pay of US evangelical groups. He’s now spouting anti-abortion tripe and will go full-on MAGA anytime soon. I don’t think it’ll play in the UK. The real danger is if the media starts making this sort of stuff part of the “conversation”.

The worry in France is, of course, the far right. 3 months ago all parties combined to prevent them defeating Pres Macron, but it was considered a shock result. Now - with the help of the left - they'll have a chance to replace PM Barnier. There are some who say keeping out the fsr right is >

I've put down this #RentControl amendment because spiralling private rents too often push people into poverty & homelessness We need this to be debated & acted on in Parliament - so please ask your MP to sign up to co-propose my New Clause 7 to amend the #RentersRightsBill @acornunion.bsky.social
