“Building with lower-carbon materials and methods doesn’t need to make housing more expensive—and even has the added benefit of supporting Canadian industries at a time of high tariffs and trade tension.” cleanenergycanada.org/as-canada-bu...

The University Ave cycle tracks are state-of-the-art. Their glorious width is future-proof for our growing cycling city - safe passing space, e-bikes safely coexisting, room for everyone. Narrowing the most beautiful cycle tracks I've ever seen for an extra car lane we don't need is so sad.

Bike lane update: "Toronto's proposal includes returning two car lanes to University Avenue near the city’s hospital row, narrowing the bike lanes and removing on-street parking, said a source familiar with the plan." #biketo #topoli

New project. Gas meter is gone. Buh bye #NetZero + Gas Removal = #NetPositive

This is where the politics of silly mixes with housing efficiency. A hare-brained idea as drought continues in the west, water supplies almost everywhere are threatened by extreme climate events. With safety measures for water are reduced with EPA regs… #Idiocracy

BIG: PARIS citizens voted in a referendum to pedestrianize 500 MORE of the city's streets, giving fresh momentum to ongoing efforts by city leaders to create more people-places, curb car usage, and improve air quality. 66% of the Parisian vote supported the measure, official results showed. #Paris

It seems that many of our engineered joists (TJIs) come from the states... so we're looking at domestic dimensional lumber or open web joists. If you know of a good BC mfr of TJIs let us know.

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years as a result of a deliberate strategy. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people. Good trade.

Blower door test of Passive House retrofit today with afternoon sun making everything very red. Result: 1.0 ACH

Remember, when Barcelona eliminated 3 lanes of vehicle traffic & converted this street into a 4.7km green pedestrian corridor in the heart of the Eixample grid, businesses sued. They actually won. But by decision-time, the businesses had decided they actually like it. citylabbcn.org/the-legal-at...

"The authors of Abundance rhapsodize over the abundance of the unchained human enterprise, without noting it comes at the direct expense of the abundance of nature. The ideology of endless growthism has lasted for 200 years (...) but we are coming to the end of that era."

What every west coast city needs right now is a full Zoning Holiday. NOT new stock plans, and NOT a stop to energy code progress. Here’s a proposal for two viable fixes: www.linkedin.com/pulse/ration... (👀@matthaneysf.bsky.social, @sonjatrauss.bsky.social )

🍃 Pollution-busting London Dock secondary school Passivhaus was chosen for the project to counter the problems of air pollution in inner-city location. Read our case study on Mulberry Academy London Dock here: www.passivhaustrust....

Tesla misses its delivery targets by around 40,000 vehicles and down 13% YoY with worst quarterly decline ever. Here's why you too should buy a vehicle that makes a lot more sense for the urban space and only brings positive vibes: www.cyclingelectric.com/in-depth/buy...

Yes. Everywhere.

Hahah that voice reading the design guidelines. Amazing

Taking three portable induction cooktops, a frying pan, two air quality sensors, camera gear, and more, by bike? Not a problem!

People I see on e-bikes: - Seniors staying active and living their best life. - Moms, dads and kids actually enjoying the school run. - People getting groceries or running errands - Service workers commuting on an affordable vehicle “E-bikes aren’t cheating. They’re winning.” - @pflax1.bsky.social

Goldman devotes a report to foreign boycotts of US goods. 🇺🇸 “.. this headwind provides an additional reason why US GDP growth will likely underperform consensus expectations in 2025. “.. Foreign Sentiment Towards the US Has Declined Sharply”

So, um, between Trump cozying up to Russia and trying to annex Canada and Greenland, it’s clear he believes climate change is real enough to care a lot about control of the Arctic, right?

Traffic engineers treat every street like a highway and every mode like a car. But infrastructure should be designed for the most vulnerable first. If a kid couldn’t safely use what you’ve built, it’s a failure. Full stop.

"We will immediately develop homelessness reduction targets with every province and territory to inform housing-first investments, improve access to treatment and end encampments community by community," the Carney campaign said in a statement." www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Here it is! Our very extensive post on Southern Ontario housing affordability, going back 20 years. We look at home prices, wages, mortgage rates and more and show that the GTAs housing crisis continues to spread across Southern Ontario. Read here: www.missingmiddleini...

Basically, the AB gov't wants to give up on dealing with the climate crisis. I can't even. "The Alberta government is considering killing its industrial carbon tax, according to an industry association email obtained by The Narwhal." www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/art...

What if we reformed procurement to eliminate unfair barriers that inhibit a sector contributing 14% of the GDP, built better social infrastructure and better #PlaceForPeople? bit.ly/4hCPdXj

"Integrated assessment models, used to guide how much governments should invest in cutting GHG emissions, have failed to capture major risks from climate change. Potential economic benefits of urgent climate policy action have also been significantly understated" www.theguardian.com/environment/...

i'm just noting if there's a german, canadian, or swiss firm interested in an architect focused on decarbonization, passivhaus, mass timber, and innovative forms of housing... i know someone

as someone who cares deeply about government efficiency, it has been maddening to see DOGE do everything possible to make the government less efficient. DOGE is just a bunch of evil freaks using “efficiency” as a front to destroy government

You never hear about an energetic movement to turn an underused road into a trail. It’s like there’s only one type of alignment that is ever allowed to become a trail…

Good morning, Utrecht! This is what a city where most people travel by bus, bike, and cargo bike looks like at 8:30AM. This is the future of cities. Goedemorgen, Utrecht! Zo ziet een stad eruit waar de meeste mensen met de bus, fiets en bakfiets reizen om 8:30 uur. Dit is de toekomst van steden.

The train station on the top serves a population of 450k more people, in case you're curious how lacking our rail infrastructure is in the United States.

throwing a party for the dumbest tax hike in US history

❌ Myth: People don’t cycle because of the weather. ✅ Reality: They don’t cycle because roads are unsafe. Protected bike lanes mean families will ride - even on dark, cold, rainy winter nights.
