I was feeling chicken today...

Would you prefer ducphant?

I wouldn't touch that book

Today’s #AnAnimalADay is the 2nd largest fish alive on earth: the Basking Shark! This massive shark routinely grows to 26ft long and is completely harmless to humans. It’s a slow moving filter feeder. It likes to slowly feed near the surface, almost like it’s basking in the sun (hence the name).

I have a feeling he looks absorbent and yellow and porous

The most dangerous game

Today’s #AnAnimalADay is the Common Tree Shrew! This little mammal is native to Thailand/Indonesia/Malaysia and has shown a surprising resilience and adaptability as it loses its native habitat to humans. These shrews have provided humans valuable info on diseases like hepatitis and even cancer.

Why can't it be both?

I believe we'd all like this

Behold, the old "If they can put a man on the moon" argument was born, forcing innovation worldwide.

Life is short. Get it off your chest.

Today's #AnAnimalADay is the Eastern Imperial Eagle! This bird has a widespread range, and throughout different parts of the year the species can be found in parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe. They've been known to wait patiently outside the burrow of ground squirrels to grab them when they emerge.

Also, y'know, he's a bear

Been there, done that

Today's #AnAnimalADay is the Common Blanket Octopus! This is a fairly large octopus, at least for females, which can grow to 2 meters long. Males on the other hand don't get above 3cm! The males and smallest females carry stolen tentacles from Man O' War jellyfish for protection and hunting.

It wouldn't be the first time Edison stole from Tesla.

Today's #AnAnimalADay is the Southwestern Red Squirrel! Native to the mountains of CO/NM/AZ, this tree-dwelling squirrel wasn't declared its own species until 2016 (until then it was lumped in with American red squirrel). They're a bit picky about habitat and prefer to live at high altitudes.

Today’s #AnAnimalADay is the Albacore! Aka the longfin tuna, anyone who likes canned tuna or sushi is likely familiar with this fish in some capacity. It reaches a max length of almost 5ft long and mostly eats squid. Careful conservation has kept this fish sustainable because conservation works!

Be very wary-o of this song!

"Ooooh, we're halfway there..."

Your earworm for the next 4 years.

Today’s #AnAnimalADay is the Carolina Chickadee! This small bird native to the SE USA can often be found in flocks of 8-10 with a pecking order. Unfortunately for the chickadee, its flock often includes other birds as chickadees have a habit of loudly calling out when they find a good foraging spot.

My doctor said I was a potato

Where do you keep the knives?

If only I'd thought of this when the kids were at home!

Today's #AnAnimalADay is the Red Diamond Rattlesnake! This beautiful pit viper is found only in a small area of California and Mexico, and it can get quite large for a rattlesnake (the largest on record was over 5ft long). Though their bite is serious, their venom is more mild vs. other rattlesnakes

Me, all the time.

Why stop at the Gulf?

"Great Moments in History"

I wouldn't mind another series in this franchise. It was always fun.

The formula for a velociraptor. You're welcome.

Happy Valentine's day

It's #ValentinesDay, so we need a romantic animal for #AnAnimalADay, and I can't think of a better one than the Pileated Gibbon! These gibbons not only mate for life, but the male and female sing a unique call-&-response duet in the morning as a way to reinforce their bond. Who says romance is dead?

Every damned time...

Fuck you again, Google

Today's #AnAnimalADay is the Roan Antelope! This is one of the largest antelopes in the world, weighing in at over 700lbs for truly large individuals. The name comes from their roan coloration of reddish/brown fur. They live in the savannah grazing on grass in small herds run by one dominant male.
