In an ideal world I would just post photos of birds.

I'm reminded of a walk through a forest, a while ago: a cacophony erupted and overhead flew a red-tailed hawk, pursued by a mob of crows. The hawk had threatened their young; it did not end well for the hawk. No one is too big or too strong to be taken down if determined people work together. #birds

On a trip to New Orleans, we met this tricolored heron wading in shallow water in City Park. It seemed totally unfazed by our presence and let us get close enough to take these photos. #birds #birding #wildlife #nature #city #neworleans #nola

Hang on in there! White-breasted nuthatch, Prospect Park, Brooklyn #nyc #birds #birding

Always a treat to see northern shovelers scooting around on Prospect Park lake. They'll be flying north soon. #birds #birding #migration #nyc

"What do you two do?" "Oh, we dabble." #birds #birding #duck #nature #wildlife

A ring-billed gull, wondering if I'm going to finish my lunch. #birds #birding #nyc

Cardinals are among the regular visitors to our backyard bird feeder. Here's one of them impatiently waiting for me to fill the feeder after the recent snowfall. #birds #birding #nature #snow

Mayan remains in Tulum, Mexico: While iguanas basked on the sunwashed stones, this mockingbird preferred the cool of a cavity between the stonework. #birds #birding #nature #wildlife #history #travel #Mexico

Inca dove, Mexico City #birds #birding #nature #wildlife #travel #mexicocity

House finches are common in Mexico City. Saw this little guy hopping around tables at a cafe; he'd lost part of his beak but was living pretty well on people's breakfast crumbs. #birds #birding #wildlife #mexico #mexicocity

Egrets of Xochimilco: We took a canoe tour through the "lungs of Mexico City"; Xochimilco is vital both for the city and for the wildlife that calls it home. #xochimilco #cdmx #mexico #conservation #wildlife #birds

Some Costa Rican hummingbirds: violet sabrewing, purple-throated mountaingem, white-tailed emerald #birds #birding #costarica #travel #nature

The lake at Prospect Park is one of the best local spots to see birds - always nice to see a great blue heron hunting at the water's edge. #birds #birding #brooklyn #nyc

How different birds would act on a first date...a thread. (From us to you this #ValentinesDay) 💕👇

Stand-off between a scarlet macaw and a capuchin monkey over the fruit of an oil palm tree, Feb 2024. If you zoom in, their expressions are priceless 😄 #birds #birding #monkey #travel #photography

The back yards on our street are fringed with a tangle of power lines and cables that run the length of the block. In spring, they're overgrown with ivy and make a good nesting spot for songbirds. Which means they're also a good place for a Cooper's hawk to find a meal. #birds #hawk #nature #nyc

A year ago, we took a trip to Costa Rica - an incredible birding destination. I left with hundreds of photos of birds, but this is my favourite: a rufous motmot thoughtfully posed in a patch of dappled sunlight in the Arenal rainforest. #birds #birding #costarica #photography

We had a couple of inches of snow overnight here in Brooklyn. Here's a very dapper-looking American Robin hunting for worms in the snow. #birds #snow #winter

The world seems cruel and uncertain so here is something that brings me joy and calm. We met this resplendent quetzal in Costa Rica. He had his back to us but looked over his shoulder with what appeared to be a smile, seemingly aware of how delighted we were to see him. #nature #birds #Addbirder
