Very frustrating. As AJC reporter Sara Gregory writes, via BlueSky, Mayor Dickens made no mention of transit at this evening's State of the City address. He made no commitment to Beltline rail (which he touted as a commitment while campaigning). bsky.app/profile/sara...

Big thanks to journalist @thatseankeenan.bsky.social for talking with us about affordable housing developments in Atlanta! Sean has done great work covering this topic (and more) at @atlantaciviccircle.org -- check out our new podcast episode. open.spotify.com/episode/3B5k...

Thanks to ‪@mdola.bsky.social‬ for this guest post! It takes a highly-critical look at Atlanta's Comprehensive Development Plan and its zoning rewrite from the point of view of a housing advocate. What are your thoughts? We'd love to hear from others too. www.threadatl.org/blog/straigh...

Atlanta currently allows up to 6 unrelated individuals to live together, but a new proposal reduces that to only 3 unrelated individuals to live together. Please let Council know you disapprove! They're the final decision makers. via @AbundantHousATL: actionnetwork.org/letters/say-...

470 cancelled MARTA bus trips in a single day. And the day isn't over yet. This is insane. Also, why isn't this headline news? If we can't find a way to lower these cancellations, the improvements from the new bus system redesign are going to be severely limited. cancellations.getsmarta.app

Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) wants to know about the transportation needs of: Older adults People with disabilities People with limited English proficiency People with low incomes Zero-car households Veterans Please share this survey with them! www.publicinput.com/arc-chst?fbc...

In May of 2022, ATL voters approved a package featuring about $300 million for sidewalks, trails, safe streets, & protected bike lanes. But a recent audit says bureaucratic requirements, poor planning, & a lack of management staff are slowing progress on the projects. www.axios.com/local/atlant...

Send comments to GDOT by February 25 to support a proposed 2-way bike track (& ped improvements) on 14th St, from Northside Dr to W Peachtree!! Info: sr-9-14th-st-safety-improvements-m006685-gdot.hub.arcgis.com Comment: sr-9-14th-st-safety-improvements-m006685-gdot.hub.arcgis.com/feedback/sur...

If you want to comment on the tens of millions of public dollars we're spending on road widenings (and more) in the Atlanta area, here's your chance. Project list: cdn.atlantaregional.org/wp-content/u... Public comment instructions: atlantaregional.org/what-we-do/t...

Georgia Tech's growing number of protected bike lanes is impressive! We have great examples of what good bike infrastructure can look like in the city. Getting all connected in a seamless network is another big goal to tackle. www.pts.gatech.edu/2025/01/06/g...

Another of Atlanta's "rapid housing" developments is coming to city-owned property at the northwest corner of 17th St & Northside Dr. The city will create three stories of stacked modular units to provide 100 residences, plus mental health (and other) services, to people experiencing homelessness.

This is a good description of why it's important for a wide range of Atlantans who support progressive urbanism to speak to their leaders at every opportunity! (Note 'wide range' - that's very important.) We've got to break down this echo chamber of conservative ideas about city planning.

Regarding the project to extend the streetcar to the Eastside Beltline, Mayor Dickens will present a study of options for different modes & their costs to the public next year. Seems like he's saying 'yes' to rail on the BL at some unspecified point in the future, but 'maybe' to this extension.

Yet another Georgia law that prevents cities from being successful as cities: State law prevents MARTA from using automated traffic cameras to enforce a bus-only lane on the Summerhill Bus Rapid Transit line. The agency is asking legislators to change it. www.fox5atlanta.com/news/marta-l...

Seems like adding all those lanes to the I-75/85 Connector didn't help anything, it just induced more traffic. An investment in more transit, plus compact growth (versus intense sprawl) would've been better. Yes, it's a utopian, urbanist dream. But dreams can grow up to become visions and plans. 1/

MARTA has an interactive map of the draft for their new bus network. Check it out here: nextgenbusdraftnetwork.s3.amazonaws.com/index.html There's also a survey open so you can share your thoughts about the draft: www.surveymonkey.com/r/MARTANextG...

An analysis in Colorado forecasts that eliminating parking mandates could boost new home production by 41%. Parking reform works! And no, we don't have to wait until every suburban subdivision has its own MARTA station before we can make progress. www.sightline.org/2024/12/10/p...

Well said! The City of Atlanta should not be limiting the places where its warming centers can be located at all. But to do so when freezing temps are moving in is particularly awful.

Join us for a Drift the Map this Sunday (Dec. 8) to explore Olmsted Linear Park, designed in the 1890s by legendary architect Frederick Law Olmsted! Meet at: Deepdene Park 2189 N Ponce De Leon Ave Time: 1pm - 4pm More info: www.silvermanphoto.com/driftthemap

Sad news: Georgia Tech Professor Richard Dagenhart has passed away. One of the most influential urbanism teachers in the city, his impact on Atlanta across a generation of Georgia Tech graduates and Good Urbanism 101 participants is difficult to measure. www.georgiaconservancy.org/richard-dage...

Irony: A MARTA board member is late to today's meeting because they have a flat tire.

A newly-opened development in Virginia Highland offers 23 housing units for the chronically unsheltered, plus case management & mental health services 🙌 People earning less than 30% of the area median income (AMI) will be able to use the service. 1/2 www.atlantanewsfirst.com/2024/12/04/a...

Congrats to Eshé Collins on her win in the runoff election for City Council's empty seat! Collins, who's replacing former Councilmember Keisha Sean Waites, has proven to be someone who listens thoughtfully to urbanism advocates. Let's do some good work together. www.wabe.org/school-board...

TODAY at 6:30 pm, join the the discussion about the new Atlanta Zoning 2.0 Ordinance, covering "parking and loading standards, sign standards, streetscapes standards, and more." Trinity Presbyterian Church 3003 Howell Mill Road Or register to watch online: atlzoning.com/meet-and-con...

The ban on data centers near MARTA Stations & the Beltline remains standing! Thanks to all who spoke against it (including the mayor). We've heard that companies are pressuring Councilmembers to lift the ban. Will it continue to hold? Let's stay vigilant. www.axios.com/local/atlant...

Please join us in supporting Eshé Collins in the runoff for the empty seat on Atlanta City Council tomorrow. We've found Eshé to be the better candidate based on our own talks w/ her & the answers she provided to the Abundant Housing Atlanta survey: abundanthousingatlanta.org/2024-post-3-... 1/2

Thanks to Mayor Dickens for speaking out agains the proposal for a data center in Adair Park near the West End MARTA Station!! He emailed City Council members just prior to today's meeting.

In tomorrow's meeting, City Council will vote to break their own ban on data centers near the Beltline & MARTA Stations. Ask these Council members to vote "NO" on this proposal! [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]

Thanks to @jasondozier.bsky.social for being a voice for responsible land use on Council!

Sean Keenan reports that the City of Atlanta has missed out on $3 million worth of funding for affordable housing by failing to update the in-lieu fees to account for rising construction costs. 1/2 atlantaciviccircle.org/2024/11/18/g...

Two things: 1.) How absolutely ridiculous! The Beltline is showcasing the multiuse path (for the Atlanta Convention & Visitor's Bureau) by driving vehicles on the path. 2.) On the upside, Atlanta's very lucky to have @cardenonwheels.bsky.social as an advocate -- well done.

MARTA says the Brookhaven station reno is complete and it'll reopen tomorrow after a 6-week closure. ICYMI, the closure caught city leaders by surprise: www.ajc.com/news/atlanta...

In the NY Times' new 36 Hours in Atlanta feature, they state that public transportation is "of little use to visitors." MARTA is in need of improvement for sure, but damn it y'all... that's harsh. And obviously wrong www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
