First reaction of the Price group is set up (if you can have a group of one 😜😄) This reaction is the first step in making some organic ‘shrubbery’ or ligands, that I will later coordinate to a metal centre 🧪⚗️👩‍🔬 #newPI

I wrote a book. I go on about it a lot. It's called "Managing Your Mental Health During Your PhD: A Survival Guide". I promised myself it wouldn't just tell PhDs to "eat well" like that is a magic fix for poor supervision, uncertainty and/or research not going to plan, and I think I achieved that.

Just out: Women in chemistry: Q&A with Professor Valeska Ting

The RSC is not perfect - those of us seeking the return of the neckties from 1982 are still waiting - but you know it’s pretty damn good. Proud to be a member.

Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 👩‍🔬🧑🏽‍🔬 The Women in Chemistry category on the Ci site has a range of graphics on women in chemistry, both historical and present-day! www.compoundchem.com/category/wom... #ChemSky 🧪 #WomenInScience

Welcome to #Chemsky, RSC PorMat!

You are an undergraduate student from the global south and are interested in working at one of the world leading institutes for solid-state research? - apply via the COMPASS program of @mpifkf.bsky.social and get the chance for a fully funded 6-month internship - www.fkf.mpg.de/compass

What do #COF materials really look like? Well ... It's tricky. Check out our recent article about disorder effects in COFs and how refinements are important, yet not really straightforward...oftentimes coming up short from the big picture. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/... #Science #Chemsky

If you're a non-UK scientist who wants to come to the UK for a postdoc, this year's Newton Fellowships are now open. You'll need a lab to host you (which could be me, but truly, could be any PI, so get in touch with someone you'd like to work with!) royalsociety.org/grants/newto...

Roughly 6,000 readers answered our poll, with many declaring that Bluesky was nicer, kinder and less antagonistic to science than X https://go.nature.com/42tH8Ai

It's almost three years since I left #academia... ...and since then, in my conversations with folks also thinking of leaving, this is the one thing that always come up: "I see myself as an academic...and nothing else". Recognising your value outside academia is the key first step...

A much less common event for me than in the past - a ##StationCoffee on the way from A to B. Although these days, it's really *from* B, as I'm setting out from Brum!

Now that 2025 is here, just wanted to highlight the opening we have for an Organic Chemistry Lectureship at St Andrews again. Applications close in about two weeks on 22nd January. All the details in the link. www.vacancies.st-andrews.ac.uk/V2/ViewVacan...

1/n Some time ago my colleague, excellent cook, and friend Ivan told me: "Cacio e pepe is the recipe that I screw up more often. Let's make a project studying systematically the physics of that sauce". Prepare to get cheesy, I'm glad to share the Cacio e paper preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2501.00536

Good morning #ChemSky! In a fit of insomniac helpfulness, I created a starter pack of chemistry departments*. I know the pack is rather incomplete and mostly reflects English-speaking institutions due to my own linguistic & search limitations. So please feel free to reply to request additions!

A word of caution: it might feel like that grant/paper/review cannot possibly wait over the Christmas period, but you can't get time with friends and family back. You likely won't be like "really wish I'd submitted that" in 5 years time but you might regret not spending time with those you love.

Thanks again to the organisers of #MASC2024 and to the RSC MASC group. The MASCot has made it to Open University and we look forward to seeing everyone in 2025 for #MASC2025 organised by the School of Life, Health and Chemical Sciences.

I had a fantastic time at #MASC2024 in York. First conference since arriving back in the U.K.. Great to meet many new people, catch-up with others and see some fab supramolecular and macrocyclic chemistry presented. Huge thanks to the organisers for putting together such a great meeting.

In Syndey 48 h ago but made it to York in time for the start of #MASC2024 Looking forward to an amazing couple of days of science #chemsky

Setting off to #MASC2024, looking forward to catching up with friends & taking in all the excellent #supramolecular #chemistry. Obligatory #stationcoffee for @timeasun.bsky.social
