Major new publication for the #TravelWriting Studies folk - Twenty-First-Century Perspectives on British Travel Writing, edited by the dream-team of @afquaireau.bsky.social, Emanuelle Peraldo and Samia Ounoughi. Lots of excellent stuff in here and some interesting perspectives on contemporary work.

The whole "You can tell AI text by the em-dashes" thing feels like one of those wild superstitions that always emerge in times of epidemic or mass panic - you can cure it by drinking swan's blood! You can tell a witch by their earlobes! The same panicked combination of conviction and irrationality.

Main finding from this batch of essays: students - even the very good ones - *really* can't spell T.S. Eliot's name or that of his big old modernist poem. Either that or they're deliberately inserting the errors to convince me they haven't used ChatGPT...

Nice late review of The Granite Kingdom here - in case anyone's in the market for a sort-of-travel, sort-of-history, sort-of-memoir, sort-of-lit-crit book about Cornwall... everybodysreviewing.blogspot.com/2025/03/revi...

Just in case you were wondering, Threads (or the bit its algorithm thinks I want to see) still consists of the most eye-wateringly awful bits of the self-proclaimed "writing community"...

Every module's a travel writing module...

Very interesting discussion going on here
