Municipal leaders are uniquely positioned to convey the true impact of tariffs on both sides of the border. That’s what FCM representatives VP @timtierney.bsky.social, Mayor Pam Mood and Mayor Marc Doret are focused on in Washington this weekend.

Les élu(e)s municipaux sont bien placés pour témoigner des conséquences des tarifs douaniers sur la population. C’est justement pour partager cette réalité que les représentants de la FCM, le vice-président @timtierney.bsky.social,

FCM representatives VP @timtierney.bsky.social, Mayor Pam Mood and Mayor Marc Doret had productive meetings with American local leaders with the National League of Cities today in Washington. #CCC25 #CDNMuni #cdnpoli

Good start to the morning and sat in and listen to the very similar stories of municipalities in the United States that we have in Canada. The call for a higher order of government funding is a common theme that is shared I look forward to presenting this afternoon. @fcm.ca

The NLC will be hosting a guest speaker Monday. This will be the first group of individuals that the Vice President has spoken with. It will be an interesting event, and it is important to remember the significant influence that local governments can have.

Great to meet so many people from all over the United States at #ccc25 . Our colleagues south of the border @leagueofcities ( the equivalent to @FCM_online ) shared many experiences that we all have in common. NLC President Mayor Patterson, thank you for the great discussion today.

I have arrived in Washington, D.C., for the National League of Cities, Congressional Cities Conference a few days. Municipal leaders on both sides of the border observe the unintended consequences of policies manifesting in our communities.

FCM’s 1st VP @timtierney.bsky.social and Board members Mayor Pam Mood and Mayor Marc Doret are heading to Washington to connect with our American counterparts at the National League of Cities.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women everywhere—those who lead, those who uplift, and those who inspire. Let’s not just recognize women today, but commit to supporting them every day.

SPRING AHEAD SUNDAY ⏰🌸 Don't forget that #DaylightSavings begins at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 9! Remember to change your VCR, Clock radio and Microwave Saturday night! ✅ Check batteries in your home's smoke and CO alarms.🔥

🐍 POTHOLE SEASON IS HERE! 🕳️🚧 As winter fades, it’s time for our 2nd season. Crews are out today & through the weekend using cold patch before moving to hot patching and the PYTHON 5000S🐍 slithering onto the streets soon! 📍 Help report potholes here: 🔗 311.ottawa.ca/en/3-1-1/ser...

After my request at the Transit Committee to see how many electric buses have been received and are in service, OC Transpo has delivered the page they promised with the details. I appreciate their follow-through on this.

Next week I will be representing the FCM in Washington, DC at the National League of Cities, Congressional Cities Conference. This is part of FCM’s ongoing cross border advocacy on Canada-US relations to raise awareness of the trade tariffs on both sides of the border and our shared impacts.

🚨 March is Fraud Prevention Month & Distracted Driving Awareness 🚨 Stay safe this month with these important reminders: 🔴 Fraud Prevention: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Always research companies, avoid unsolicited offers, and never pay with gift cards or bitcoin.

How was your day? Rideau River Blasting. Hopefully, this means spring is right around the corner 💥🌹💐🌺🌷

Although it still looks like winter out there, spring is on the horizon and Rideau River Flood Control operations underway! Although the ice surface appears to be frozen, it is unstable due to the ongoing blasting preparations and is unsafe.

Nothing gets the Roads and Parking Services team up and running in the morning like a Weather Advisory before 7 am. It’s better than coffee and they are ready to respond!

Hey folks! It’s election day today! This is your chance to make your voice heard. No need for fancy jingles or rock the vote stuff. Just vote straight up. If you don’t vote, you shouldn’t complain about the results, no matter who you choose. 🗳️ elections.on.ca

My colleagues and I are wearing pink shirts today (mine’s at the dry cleaner 😀) because kindness, inclusion, and respect matter. Pink Shirt Day is a reminder that bullying has no place in our communities. A small act of support can mean the world to someone who feels alone.

Exciting News, #OttCity! We have been listening to your feedback on how you prefer to hear from us, and we are happy to announce that we are now on Bluesky! Follow us at @CityOttawa to stay updated with the latest! For service-related requests: bit.ly/3DlcsS0 or call 311.

Great to hear from Daniel Tisch, Ontario Chamber of Commerce, at the first 2025 OBJ Mayor’s Breakfast. “Despite the challenges, I have never seen government(s) respond this quickly.” Like Bruce Springsteen said, “These jobs are going, boys, and they ain’t coming back.”

For the past week, crews have been working day and night on snow removal operations. It is a monumental task that will take weeks to complete given the sheer volume of snow on the transportation network. All city resources have been assigned to snow removal as well as hundreds of contractors.

🤝 Great Meeting with Valence from EORC This Morning! We had a productive discussion with Valence from the Eastern Ottawa Resource Centre (EORC) this morning. It’s always great to connect and collaborate on ways to better support our community.

The wait for Cuppa Chico is finally over! 🎉 Just stopped by their newly opened spot at 1-5303 Canotek Road, Gloucester, Ontario K1J 9M1 (formerly Pronto). Michael, Joseph, and the whole team were incredibly welcoming—it’s a fantastic place with a cozy vibe, fresh food, and amazing coffee! ☕🥐
