Two recent documentaries throw into sharp relief the different ways the music industry treats Black and white legacy artists. 'Sly Lives!' is an attempt to correct and clarify the record; 'Becoming Led Zeppelin' is an attempt to further muddle it.

RIP Gene Hackman. 10 years ago I wrote a column where I called him the greatest living American actor. I watched all of his movies and came to this conclusion. grantland.com/hollywood-pr...

The Washington Post and LA Times editorial pages have gone full MAGA, MSNBC has purged all of its anti-Trump anchors, and Twitter is owned by a literal Nazi. Here's why liberal media bias is still a problem.

Benjamin Booker at the Crystal Ballroom in Somerville (2025.2). The sound is grimier now, better represents the current moment. Massive respect to an artist that can change their sound and stay true to themselves but still comes back to older tracks in a mode that suits the whole picture

Happy 25th to @actualylt.bsky.social’s And Then Nothing Turned Itself Out

Great news: you can now stream the Elephant 6 documentary on Kanopy, absolutely FREE with your public library card or university login! www.kanopy.com/en/product/1...

Heaven for Real and Babe Corner at Deep Cuts in West Medford (1.2025)

I don’t listen to much metal, but when I do it’s super legit. Criminal that Heron Oblivion has never made a proper follow up record

Really underrated band has a new one coming this spring and I’m pumped. RIYL Silver Jews and Ryan Davis

This one goes out to my fellow elder millennials. Bought this off the band at Pearl Street in Northampton (they were opening for someone, Death Cab?). I was obsessed with their next album. Great memories of blaring it out of boomboxes at summer camp. @suchgreatheights.bsky.social

Canceled plans, Lego construction, and ECM from the Chick Corea collection

“Cool Blue Night” introduces a ripple of jazz to Silver Synthetic's Cosmic American landscape. With sax & flute, It slinks through the AOR atmospheres with ease. The band’s usual edge gets rounded & refined, sanded down and surf waxed into a cut that’s cured with a California breeze. bit.ly/412Dlry

Interesting speech by Vince Gilligan, who is clearly chagrined over the bad-fan response to Walter White: www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/v...

Just learned it’s Jack Roses bday. Dude changed my life. Hope I live to see his music celebrated more locally. One of the best musicians from Virginia to ever do it. Jack Rose - Red Horse youtu.be/pRVhCusJvfc?...

This is an important 🧵 that’s well worth your time

I feel like I’m watching the same recklessness of financialization, the same dismissal of labor and ignorance of content that tech oligopolies brought to my fields of music, books and journalism, now applied to governmental services. $0.0030 social security payments ahead

As a dad in his 40s, I co-sign this message (and further success for MJ Lenderman)

Watched this last night it’s excellent. A deeply moving empathetic portrait of one of the most talented musicians ever

If I’m being honest, so much of the new music that gets classified as folk/Americana is boring and cheesy and reliant on ripping off classic stuff. But this one is such a beacon, I would put it in the same category as Joan Shelley, an honest and thought provoking example of excellently polite music:

On the 2nd of February 2025, The Tubs drank over 100 beers in 1 night. 🍻Watch the new video for the latest single, “Chain Reaction” and see for yourself 👀... Filmed on 16mm by Han McLoughlin 🎥 Last single before "Cotton Crown" is out on March 7th! youtu.be/IvJ0pRMxW38

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sct... listening to this for the first time in many years, reminiscing about playing it on WOZQ. Long live college radio.

🚨 Bon Iver collabs with Dijon and gets John Wilson to direct his video🚨

Would love to see a commercial that does not feature a celeb

No one has tried this before, let's see how it plays out.

Second year of college I saw TV on the Radio on tour for the first ep. Show happened in the middle of a blizzard at Smith College, they did the acapella Pixies cover

Big Star- Radio City (1974)

Whoa, our local record store, Carolina Soul in Durham, is selling off the personal record collection of the late great Chick Corea.

New Benjamin Booker album is fan freaking tastic

It's called checks & balances, but there can't be no balances if there ain't no checks, and nobody writes checks no more.

This show?

Rare boxy car sighting at the big box store. I think this is an 80s Mitsubishi LS
