I normally stick to writing however this man shaped my childhood and developed a lifelong love of nature that led me to my greatest pleasures of hill walking and gardening. He is a truly wonderful broadcaster and an inspiring individual.

I’ve worked with Kate @andreabrownlit.bsky.social for 18 years (!!) and 95 books (!!!) — she is one of the hardest-working, kindest and most generous authors in the biz. This affirmation from readers and booksellers means SO much. Yep I’m crying again 😭 HUGE CONGRATULATIONS @katemessner.com!!! 😍🎊🍾

CABIN IN THE WOODS×JOHN DIES AT THE END×KNIVES OUT When their detective friend is murdered during their annual gaming retreat, 5 dads must use their years of #TTRPG experience—and puns—to solve the crime before they're all killed off like NPCs in a badly-written campaign. 🎲🥓 #QuestPit #A #H #MY #W

SHARPE X DISSOLUTION Roland holds a deadly secret: he’s Henry Tudor’s son. Hunted by assassins and betrayed by blood, he must forge friendships and survive. But at Bosworth field he must choose; save the Tudors, or let them fall and claim his own destiny. A Bastard’s Bosworth #QUESTPIT #Q #HF

#Histficmay #Tudor 8. Introduce your protagonist Sir Roland de Velville! Henry VII’s illegitimate son(?), obsessive jouster, commander, murderer, courtier, prisoner, hunter. He took on all comers in a joust at Kensington. He was at every major Tudor event until the dissolution. And so much more!

DAY 3 #HistFicMay Why Historical Fiction? In short, because I'm obsessed. When I was 10 I travelled through the UK, went to my first castle and I was hooked. Now, I sew historical garments, dabble in historical crafts, research, and write. #history #author #historicalfiction

#HistFicMay How much is real, how much is made up? James Burke was real and 'Burke in the Land of Silver' is mostly fictionalised versions of real things. Later adventures are mostly made up, but details of the historical background (people, places, battles etc) are real.

HistFicMay 7. Real places and people or fictional? Real places and people, I love delving into the stories that surround landscape and individuals. In a Bastard’s Bosworth I have had immense fun imagining Henry VII who conquered England at 28 with an army made of misfits. #histficmay

6. Why this time period? This time period is amazing! It’s the end of the Hundreds Years war and the start of the Tudors but we often forget that THEY DIDNT KNOW THAT. So there are rebellions, assassinations, kidnappings, betrayals, jousts, marriages, alliances and oh so many battles! #histficmay

#histficmay 4. I also write fantasy of all stripes. If I can weave in some history so much the better! 5. Wales and England in 1485. A Bastard’s Bosworth follows the march through misty Welsh valleys, towering mountains, forgotten hamlets, suspicious market towns and bloody fields.

Catching up on #histficmay as I have a newborn so can’t be as consistent as I would like! 3. My first degree is in Ancient History & Archaeology and I have a deep and abiding passion for the hidden wrinkles in time that get ignored.

I’ve just seen HistFicMay so here we go. 1. I am TJ Hawkins I am a gardener, teacher and writer and live in the English countryside. 2. I write historical action adventure, my first book about Henry VII’s illegitimate son is on query. Next one incoming!

This is how Terry Pratchett gets me every time. 📚🦋

I garden as well as write and today, when clearing a path of weeds and detritus, I discovered this beautiful primrose. Gardening is a lot like writing, just like self seeding flowers, the most beautiful ideas can appear in unexpected places. 📚📝

Suggestions welcome. I like fiction of all genres, especially Gothic, Fantasy, Horror, Historical, with vivid interesting settings. Absolutely no AI. I support real authors who do real work, not AI-enabled theft. #writing #writingcommunity #noai #reading #readingcommunity (please share)

The sad news is my friends had to cancel our regular meet up. The good news is that gives me three more hours of writing I didn’t have this week! The words are flowing and it’s a lovely feeling. Plus they are flowing about a regency woman punching people so…fun #writing #writerscommunity #authors

Going back through and adding in chapters from my protagonists past has had two wonderful effects. 1. My character feels richer and their past actions now clearly influence the present. 2. My word count is rising rapidly. #booksky #writers #writingcommunity

I believe most writers have a playlist. What do you listen to in the small wee hours to keep your fingers tapping on the keyboard? My current favourite is I Won’t Run by The Struts. #authors #amwriting

Yesterday, writing 500 words felt like dredging thoughts from the back of my mind. Today, the words have flowed as easily as pouring milk. The difference? I took time to think through my character's personal motivation, the small thought they can't let go of that drives them forward. 📚💙✍️⌛❤️🧙‍♂️⚔️

A Bastard’s Bosworth is out for query but that doesn’t mean I can’t research a Bastard’s Progress! More battles, assassination, intrigue and father son dynamics between Henry VII and his illegitimate son.

This. All of this. The good part about writing and the…delightfully infuriating small people that eat into my writing time. @martingraysmith.bsky.social are you also a midnight writer?

⌛📚💙 Henry VIII stuffing his face… or his illegitimate older brother fighting for his life? My novel, A Bastard’s Bosworth, follows Roland, the rumored son of Henry VII, as he battles for survival. Less feasting, more fighting. Which story grabs you?👇 #HistoricalFiction #TudorTuesday #seekingagent
