Irish writer Jerrard Tickell wrote Appointment With Venus in 1951 whilst staying on Sark, one of the Channel Islands occupied by the Germans during WWll. The setting is the fictional Armorel, home to loyal villagers, occupying soldiers, a pacifist painter and a pedigree Guernsey cow called Venus.

I’ve had a great time in Florida 🇺🇸 but I’m truly shocked by the amount of single use plastic I’ve come across here in comparison to 🇬🇧. Plastic straws, plastic cups, plastic disposable cutlery & plastic bags used everywhere, most of this plastic is not recyclable. And most people don’t seem to care 🥲
