Happy 100 years to a man well-defended against the fate of Xerxes. 🤵‍♂️🐈‍⬛🐭

💔💔

We’re joining Congresswoman Maxine Dexter at 5:45pm tonight for this tele-town hall on her Facebook page. We’ll be taking questions from Oregonians about our fight at the federal level.

The court ordered that NIH grant funding be unfrozen, so The Regime found a way around it. For NIH grants to be funded, a review panel must rank them. In order for a review panel to meet, they must post it on the Federal Register. Submissions to the Federal Register are now on hold “indefinitely”.

What I hear during these arguments: "It's better for children to die of preventable diseases than for them to grow up to be like you."

Roses are red. Some grow in defiance. Keep fighting the fight & Stand Up for Science. #AcademicValentine

The National Parks Service erased transgender people from their website honoring Stonewall. You can leave a comment on the website. Flood this comment box www.nps.gov/ston/index.htm

Thank you @doj.oregon.gov for being part of this action!

Out of curiosity, I mapped the percentage of the civilian workforce employed using NIH grant money. A couple of things stand out. First, New York has the highest percentage of any state by far. Second, many states that voted Republican will be directly affected if these jobs are lost.

Writing on the wall that I'm about to lose my job. Only real question is when -- and whether the person in charge of dismissing me gets the boot first. 💔

#NIH just slashed indirect costs caps on grants to 15%--this is a HUGE blow to the research community. While there is certainly inefficiency to the grants system, indirects help institutions support scientists & academic infrastructure. No one will want to do research anymore. #medsky #academicsky

Oregon filed a multi-state federal lawsuit today to block a presidential order that threatens to end federal funding to medical institutions providing gender-affirming care. We will not stand by as the President tries to unilaterally impose his harmful agenda on Oregonians.

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

Okay so I might not be a “Top Democratic lawmaker” but tell you what- hell no. Trans students & athletes: you are loved. You are respected. You belong on the track, field, and all the spaces to joyfully and safely compete. Let me repeat that: YOU BELONG and we will fight any efforts to change that.

I love you and your thundersnow, Astoria!

This is a great listen!

NSF to lay off nearly half of its staff in the next two months. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Oregon folks -- Wyden has Town Halls in counties near Portland scheduled for Feb 15th. www.wyden.senate.gov/town-halls Normally I'm the kind of person to stay the hell away from crowds, but this is not normal life, by any means.

Excited to be chairing a new Stanford faculty search in Neurology. We are looking for MD and MD/PhD physician-scientists who have a strong research program (wet lab or dry lab) and who are also excellent clinicians. Please spread the word. Here's the link to the job posting: lnkd.in/d6REUGfM

💯

Republicans want you to hit your kids instead of giving them health care
