on today's list of achievements : I got eksctl to segfault consistently

eggs sure are eggspensive, huh?

> meta torrented books to train their AI yeah ok ig > the sources are Anna's Archive and libgen uh oh, is this gonna get them in more trouble? > they seeded hell yeah

this website sucks I can't find cats; send me your cats NOW

anyway toast.prose.sh/status-25-01 status update for january 2025; sorry you're getting this and not what it might have been if january was like 3 days longer!

ever wonder why everything keeps getting hacked while it's actually not that hard to be reasonably secure? it's because most companies hate updating things (long bureaucratic process), and if you tell them they're vulnerable, they frivolously sue you. so no one tells them until they get exploited.

en vrai, à ce stade, pourquoi *pas* revenir sur tumblr ? à méditer …

im like the impostor from among us, i kill people

have I ever mentioned that I hate IEEE floating points?

as you start implementing full numeric tower with helpers: yeah let's have options for mutating the big integers, that can be useful 2 weeks later: removed half the codebase, being able to assume immutability is just better

a reminder btw

do not love how running the scala cli tool once ran a daemon on my computer that never quits and leaks memory over time

Today was the last day of Steam Delivery Girl, and I wanted to say a final farewell! (some cheesy text down below). Thank you everyone for the amazing response! This has been one of the most fulfilling projects of my life! 🥹✨💖

happy new year !

Ever wanted to benchmark RSA key generation but found it too slow and variable, like benchmarking a lottery? No? Just me? Well, I nerd-sniped myself into producing average representative inputs that can be used to benchmark, profile, and compare RSA keygen. c2sp.org/CCTV/keygen Happy New Year(?)!

wow applescript internals are truly a mess huh

Got all 50 stars for this year's AoC On the overall I think it was pretty good, though I really dislike a couple of days' puzzles. I'll probably write a short blog post about what I think about each of them at some point, for sure by the end of January. #AdventOfCode adventofcode.com

really funny how github is having to "give away" copilot for free now because nobody wants to use it now if only they let you disable the damn thing properly (rather than just hiding the "search" bar)

Shocking just how fast and light ruby feels nowadays. I spend like ~30m doing aoc daily recently for fun (mostly to help wait until my vacation starts), and I tested an algorithm in ruby to root out a bug, and it ZOOMED. It's even faster with YJIT! What happened? If only they also fixed gems…

"Try X for free with our one month trial." I never got these; they must work, or they'd stop doing it, eh? For me, though, if it's not a service I care about, it being free changes nothing. You need to either convince me I actually want this, or pay me to spend my time on something I don't care for.

nothing too exciting this month, but if you've been wondering what I've been up to, you can check the status update here: blog.toast.cafe/status-24-11
