I put some introductory #EEG / #MEG videos together, based on our introduction to #neuroimaging at the @mrccbu.bsky.social : youtube.com/playlist?lis.... They should cover the most common aspects of EEG/MEG analysis, including pre-processing, source estimation and functional connectivity.

Can this be true?

Really excited to have this work out in the world… this TMS setup has been a long time in the making! Please take a look and let us know what you think. It was a pleasure to work with @smbruijn.bsky.social for the first time, and the fantastic MSc student Raven Huiberts. Thanks to @royalsociety.org

Nice preprint showing leg muscles have increased cortical excitability with destabilized walking. Corticospinal Excitability in Response to Mediolateral Gait Instability Raven O. Huiberts, Sjoerd M. Bruijn @smbruijn.bsky.social, Jennifer L. Davies @jendavies.bsky.social doi.org/10.1101/2025...

Why is recovering from a loss of balance sometimes harder when we overthink it? In our new EEG study (now out in Jneuro!), we show that consciously controlling balance dampens the cortical response to a sudden loss of balance (and balance gets worse)! www.jneurosci.org/content/44/4...

My colleague Jon Warne and two of our excellent MSc Physiotherapy students are conducting a survey on inclusion health They’re specifically interested in awareness and knowledge of inclusion health groups among health and social workers Completing/sharing the survey would be highly appreciated!

In case you thought your research program is safe for a while because your grant was "already" funded ⬇️

Stopping by to share that being part of the EMMP has been a wonderful experience. My two mentees are very friendly, open to questions and suggestions, and I am happy to provide advice and be a listening ear for their concerns and goals for the upcoming months and years.

...what is the impact of lost concentration time on science — not just on the structure and process of science, but also on the content and quality of research?

Excited to share that our paper 'Distinguishing Neural Correlates of Prediction Errors on Perceptual Content and Detection of Content' is now published! With @smfleming.bsky.social, @peterkok.bsky.social and heroic scanning during the pandemic by Oliver Warrington! direct.mit.edu/jocn/article...

JOB ALERT FOR NEUROLOGY TRAINEES. On www.oriel.nhs.uk now. Academic Clinical Lecturer post in Dementia & Neurodegeneration @imperialbrains.bsky.social. Research can cover any aspect of the above. Please repost and feel free to contact me if interested (am at ABN SIG meeting today).

Explaining functional symptoms well is essential. Demonstrating motor phenomena such as the Hoover sign is very helpful. But how do we explain sensory symptoms, which affect 4 in 5 patients with functional neurological disorder? (answer below, paper here: doi.org/10.1136/pn-2...) [1/3]

Fantastic study!

A great lab and mentors are hiring postdocs to study robotic exoskeletons for stroke rehab!!

Just out - we interviewed patients & therapists about their experiences of BPPV management in acuteTBI Main message: acute diagnosis important. Physio and OT equally able to manage BPPV. More data needed re treatment timing @barryseemungal.bsky.social @nihr.bsky.social doi.org/10.1080/0269...

We're hiring a postdoc to work on several projects related to balance control and concussion! Please spread the word! tinyurl.com/bdz9tnat

I'm 'reissuing' some of my Twitter threads on Bluesky. This one is from June 2020. "Ten Myths about FND" in Eur J Neurology with Sarah Lidstone, Rui Araujo and Bas Bloem. People with FND come up against a lot of these during diagnosis and treatment. 1/ onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10....

In human balance, how do CoP and CoM relate to each other? A small thing, but it is amazing how often people get this wrong. CoP (relative to ankle joints) is a measure of torque, while CoM is a measure of body movement. #balance #posture 🧪

First 'proper' post here (and a lazy quote repost at that :D). New paper published in J Neuroscience. Here we explore the neural mechanisms underpinning the paradoxical decreases in stability that occur when people try to consciously control balance. www.jneurosci.org/content/44/4...
