Alternative Number Ones on the Offspring's "Come Out And Play," a vaguely questionable song that blew my fuckin wig back in its moment.

Cost myself a whole day in Barcelona because I brought an expired passport to the airport. When you read my reviews, please note that I am not a functional person and discount all opinions accordingly.

Wrote about the miraculous new Pulp joint, my favorite album of the year thus far.

Alternative Number Ones on Toad The Wet Sprocket, a band that existed as a constant reassuring radio-thrum for a few years, and on "Fall Down," a pretty good song.

Number Ones on fake-steamy young-star duet "Señorita," a triumph of the mid.

One for Sacha Jenkins

Alternative Number Ones on Green Day's "Longview," a song that Changed Things.

One for George Wendt

Number Ones on Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy," the second column in a row about a great generational-shift song.

Alternative Number Ones on the rise of Live, the band that arguably set the template for a whole generation of post-grunge wailers, and on "Selling The Drama," a much better song than I remembered.

Number Ones on a 10.

One for Sabu

Alternative Number Ones on Morrissey, still doing numbers at the peak of the alt-rock boom, and on "The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get," a good song.

Wrote about the new billy woods album, which is amazing.

Wrote about the Grand National tour and about the way that the larger stadium-show experience splits the line between transcendence and outright misery.

Number Ones on the fluctuating fortunes of the Jonas Brothers enterprise and on "Sucker," that institution's grand comeback moment.

Father, can I tell your congregation how a 20-year album anniversary really feels?

Alternative Number Ones on Baltimore legend Tori Amos and her noisily sweet sacred-profane track "God," a pretty unlikely radio hit.

Number Ones on "Shallow": great song, better movie scene, very fun cultural moment.

anybody who wants my vote in 2026 or 28 better be real-deal committed to prosecutions and prison sentences for a whole host of Trump admin people, including Trump himself, and his goons in various agencies

Havoc: Obvious attempt for Hardy to get his own John Wick. Evans can't have actors doing crazy flying MMA like in The Raid, so they just shoot a lot of guns instead, which is more boring. Hyper-violence gets numbing and repetitive by the end. Also: fuckin awesome, can't wait to watch again.

Wrote about Robyn's nothing-but-bangers self-titled album at 20 and about the wave of unpopular pop stars that it catalyzed.

didn't know @tombreihan.bsky.social was working on this -- an intense read for me that brings up many memories, both of the time the album came out, the times that led to its writing, and the time since.

Wrote about The Sunset Tree, an album that means a great deal to me, turning 20:

Forgot how much of the Andor experience is me just being like "wait, who's that guy? how do these people know each other again?"

Alternative Number Ones on the Crash Test Dummies' "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm," a very strange thing that happened.
