A credible historian reports in a blog that Frontierland opened with only decomposed granite along the main walkways before being replaced by slurried asphalt. By these 1955 photos from Daveland it’s hard to tell, but I doubt it. Walt got good advice from several folks about safety liabilities.

The gnarly burlwood posts that Walt Disney purchased on a trip to Colorado (?) and installed in front of the Shooting Gallery have long been replaced by fiberglass replicas, but what about the one inside the Trading Post? Looks real to me! Somehow I’ve overlooked this artifact all these years!

Today this shot would be looking west across “Small World Mall” from the old Motor Boat Cruise lake towards the back of the Fantasyland Theatre. I think at least one eucalyptus still stands, visible in the center of the newer shot.
