Ooh eee, news from everyone’s second favourite podcast! @juliansimpson.bsky.social’s ‘Crowley’ needs your support: www.backerkit.com/call_to_acti...

Your reminder that software developers are selling generative AI on the economic model of a primary school cake sale. Other people provide the essential ingredients at their own expense, and do the crucial work unpaid, while the sellers of the end product keep all the income.

I felt a large part of my remit as a BBC Radio Comedy Producer was to bring the next generation of UK writing talent (of any age). The steady attrition of BBC Radio Drama in recent times is an ominous sign that the BBC is losing sight of its essential mission. www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio...

A long but very interesting read suggesting that AI is a wildly damaging bubble, with a lot of numbers to back it up. "...it’s important to remember that the prevalence of AI is not proof of its adoption, but the intent of companies shoving it into everything."

What were Gatland and Howley doing to those poor boys

So my water bill is now 80 quid a month? And they're not going to improve the service at all, unless you're talking about the servicing of their debts taken out to pay dividends.

In its first year, the @humanists.uk’s Apostate Support Helpline has already provided life-saving help to hundreds escaping high-control religions & cults. Proud of Faith to Faithless (which runs the helpline), and its staff and volunteers! humanists.uk/2025/02/21/h...

Well, I've been educated today. I knew the Oort Cloud was a long way out - Voyager 1 is licking along at around a million miles a day and it will take another 300 years to reach it - but I had no idea it was so deep.

Booking travel from a work event. I've decided to pay extra for 1st class so I can work better, but claim back the 2nd class fare. Which seems reasonable to me at least. Of course 1st class is 2/3 the price of my 2nd class journey in 2023 when I booked only a month or 2 ahead. Mad system.

For three years, Ukraine's brave people have stood strong against Putin’s war machine. We're at a turning point, what happens next will shape Europe for generations. Now, more than ever, we must stand by our Ukrainian friends.

like...writers...you can't rail against A/I books then turn around and use A/I covers artists, why would you denounce A/I art but casually use ch@tgpt same goes for A/I voices and music we are ALL at risk of getting exploited -- we shouldn't be sabotaging each other and making it easier for them

Absolutely

This was the main plot of Twisters. I'm completely serious. (I actually looked up if it was true, and Reddit's opinion was the movie went too light on this and that the stories people told were far, far worse).

Randomly catch some Saturday evening chat show and learn that Danny dyer has 3 grandkids and is 1 year older than me.

A performance to be proud of for a change. Ireland deserved the win but just a few things going the way of Wales could have overturned that!

We are all Adam Jones' facial expression

Station break: time to pay the bills. If you would like a science fiction narrative set in a hopeful far-future aftermath to tech bros and religious nuts taking off for space and leaving a blasted Earth behind to pick up the pieces, may I recommend my Jacob's Ladder and White Space books?

Regardless of how much coverage it gets, Trump aiming to install a military command that places loyalty to him above loyalty to the constitution needs to be a much bigger story.

The smell from this is driving me mad. Think I may have to start my lunch in secret without telling the kids.

make it stopppppppppp

the fact that this is just a straightforward retelling of yesterday's events without hyperbole

In the second instalment of The Flanigan Files, Newton Flanigan must unravel Angela's past to save her next victim, her rapist. The Lost Raven tells the tale of a young woman whose hatred for men seals her fate.

A former Soviet spy says that Trump was indeed recruited to the KGB 38 years ago by his department. He was given a codename, 'Krasnov'. We checked, and the source was indeed a KBG intelligence officer at the time. Read about it in my @bylinetimes.bsky.social report: bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d...

Saving you a click: they aren't trained to hunt fossil fuel company CEOs

The Many Lives of James Lovelock is the next BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week! Tune in to the first episode read by Richard Goulding on Monday at 11.45 and learn how the pioneer ecologist came to have “two loves: the natural world and bombs.” www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...

Muppet Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. The humans are the muppets. Every time someone is replaced by a pod person they are recast with a human actor. Nobody acknowledges that they look any different.

"Sure, fascists are throwing Naxi salutes during their Day 1 speeches at CPAC, but sometimes 19 year-old Gender Studies majors at Oberlin College are a bit preachy about LGBTQ+ rights on social media, so aren't both sides actually the same?"

worldcon membership is £200? damn, it really has been a long time since I went to a convention!

do people still do blogposts about cover art these days? This time round it's been more of an intricate process (one I've enjoyed) than it was for Falling Dark so there's more to talk about, but I dunno if it'd be interesting. Maybe just as a cover reveal.

We should be screaming this from the rooftops: "As politicians on the far right and the right compete for votes by peddling hostility towards migrants, ageing populations are shrinking the pool of workers who can pay for pensions and support the welfare state." Q. Want a pension? A. Immigration.

If you can help and donate, please do, a bike can change the lives of people who need it the most, not only as a mode of transport and physical activity, but as a symbol of independence and freedom! ❤️

Hello Bluepals, we are open.

"Judeo-Christian" is what people say when they'd like to be racist but know they'd get into trouble if it was too blatant.
