They were careless people, Tom and Daisy—they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.... —F Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby, p 179 (1925)

In Nazi Germany, the targeted population was encouraged to self-deport and the state sought to impoverish them to force them to leave.

i made a chart to save their time and effort today

I'm not going to stop saying this. We need to stop calling it "deporting." It may not always be fair or humane, but deportation has a process. And it means you're sent back to where you came from. These people are being trafficked and sold to slave prisons. Not deported.

Most of the world’s foreign aid comes from governments, not philanthropic foundations

This is the truth. Republicans could put an immediate end to this insanity. They own this.

Nobody should have been sent there, period. Not the ones with no record, not the ones with a record. Nobody.

The best evidence we have that he has absolutely no idea what he is doing.

The most frustrating thing about this whole manufacturing bullshit tariff debacle is that there ARE good jobs that we need to be funding here have here that can’t be outsourced. It’s called the Green New Deal.

The American people have risen up and they are PISSED AS HELL. #HandsOff

I have never seen anything like this in NYC. 5th Ave covered from 42nd St well to the 20s. Nobody prepared for this volume. Volunteers are holding the traffic on all the side streets. No police in sight. #handsoff

I’ve worked on these types of global data architecture consolidations before. It takes months if not years of planning and work from all levels of the organization. This will break. It will cause errors. It will create chaos.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A “TRADE DEFICIT”—IT’S JUST CALLED “BUYING THINGS.” YOU DO NOT HAVE A TRADE DEFICIT WITH YOUR DENTIST JUST BECAUSE HE NEVER BUYS ANYTHING FROM YOU.

The question of if a country could fuck itself harder than the UK did with Brexit has today been answered.

Harris Faulkner's Fox News show has been on for 20 minutes now. She has not mentioned tariffs or stocks once and a stock ticker isn't being displayed. Strong state media vibes.

ECONOMY IN SHAMBLES U.S. job cuts hit 275,240 in March 2025, the highest since the pandemic peak in 2020, surpassing 2001 & 2008 recessions. Layoffs surge as federal cuts, led by DOGE, echo Covid-era losses. It's the third highest monthly total on record.

For over a decade I’ve been a hobbyist election analyst. I have NEVER seen an entire county map shift for a single party. Never. This is 2008 Obama levels of shifts. But it’s so much bigger, the Obama climate was far less partisan compared to now. This is a SHOCKING shift!

If senate dems want @booker.senate.gov’s filibuster to be anything other than performative, they should all organize to agree this happens EVERY TIME the republicans move to pass legislation. Delaying for 18+ hours is admirable, but doing so every single time delays republicans by weeks or months.

💯

This week, my Somerville constituent Rümeysa Öztürk was abducted in broad daylight by DHS officials and sent to Louisiana to be locked in a detention center. She has not been charged with any crime.

It’s #BlueSkyArtShow Saturday! The theme this week is “arch”. Sometimes, you find something, and all you have is your phone. This church in #Oaxaca was stunning in the evening light last year. The sun and stain glass created brilliant colors on the walls and ceiling.

Musk is bailing himself out of a sinking ship by off loading Twitter onto one of his start ups, all at the expense of investor money. Not only is this absolutely shady, but also suggests he’s cash strapped and concerned about debt.
