The next things that go wrong in aviation will be because of Musk, Trump, and Doge. By me: fallows.substack.com/p/they-were-...

Seems like when a bunch of oligarchs and other billionaires buy control of all three branches of the federal government and proceed to loot the treasury at the expense of the vast majority of citizens one could call it…. Corruption?

This🔥🔥🔥 Take the damn gloves off. Assholes walk among us. We can’t nice our way out of this coup. They identify with the hatred, misogyny, and racism – they embrace it. Being nice and playing by the rules isn’t going to fix this. Period.

Trump did this

Golly seems like Trump firing all those people in the FAA and Musk asking for weekend performance summaries from everyone who is left just might be creating a distraction. www.cnn.com/2025/02/25/u...

An important element of autocracy is having security forces loyal to their leader and his (Erik) Prince not their country.

In this week's free installment of From the Ramparts, I discuss what we can do in the short term to slow down American autocracy before it gets any worse. Click, subscribe, share!

Maybe because the house speaker could prevent it from coming to a vote, it would not pass either house, and if it did the felon would veto it

A Methodist church in Montrose, CO interpreted 'love thy neighbor' to mean people living on the streets could put up tents in the safety of the church courtyard. The city is trying to stop it. The story from our Jaleesa Irizarry. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nih9...

84% HUD staff cuts will cause irreversible harm to towns still recovering & trying to rebuild from recent disasters. Trump is giving tax breaks to his rich friends over ensuring HUD can deliver resources to you.   Hear 👏🏾 Me 👏🏾 Clearly 👏🏾    He doesn't care about you!

That would be a lot of blank documents

I’m…. agreeing with… Steve… Steve …. Bannon 😱 where’s that sanitizer?

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

Yes but maybe wait until they get to the gate

Truth 😢

Regarding Kansas being disappointing: Hunter Dickinson obviously has individual talent, but his teams have tended to underperform: loss in elite 8 as a one seed in 2021, barely over .500 in 2022 (but an upset to sweet 16), even closer to .500 and only NIT in 2023, twice now at Kansas.

NEW: In a victory for voters, the Wisconsin Supreme Court dismisses a lawsuit from a right-wing group seeking to limit early absentee voting sites. Cities can continue use in-person early absentee locations and mobile voting vehicles.

Well, once he lets everyone starve to death they won’t be hungry amirite? That’s his version of effective altruism

It's annoying how clearly this is going to play out. They gut the FAA. Therefore, the FAA can't do its job well because it was gutted. Therefore, they say "The FAA sucks, we have to privatize it." which is what Project 2025 wants to do. They're manufacturing the crises for their end goal.

I’ve been saying that when they say America was great in the 50s, they mean the 1850s not the 1950s

In this week's edition, I look into the felon's autocratic use of his taxpayer-funded law firm...and his promises of more. Click, subscribe, share!

On the latest airline crash, by me (no paywall): fallows.substack.com/p/from-defun...

At the rate things are going we will be calling the originals paleo dogists

As a journalist who covers extremism at the local level, I think it’s a mistake to view Trump’s Napoleonic statement as solely about presidential power. Consider if it’s interpreted as a wink and a nod for any extremist to act outside the law to “save” the country as they see fit

This is the V Day content I am here for

Applebaum is among those who know this best. Poland is the only hopeful example out there

Seems optimistic to limit it at thousands

I’m reviewing a paper that in part emphasizes how American science & technology innovation outdid the nazis and soviets because their science organizations rewarded loyalty and congruence with regime ideology over realities that conflicted with them. I’m sure there are no lessons to draw from that.

Happy to get the alert but these fill me with dread lately

Funny how so many people in the military don’t regard themselves as working for the federal government. I heard that a lot when I served — both active duty and DoD civilians complaining about how government workers are lazy and incompetent

When the felon finally defenestrates the oligarch, it would be amusing if he declared x and space x to be vital to the national interest and seize them under eminent domain

Nice!

One of our supporters shared this with us—people are getting creative tonight!

This is true. Whenever I hear a change to section 230 (is that right? It’s late) would destroy the internet as we know it, I think…. Would that be so bad?

I have been avoiding a similar talk with my Dad. I guess we all need to point some things out and hope it somehow does some good. This seems like a good approach -- ask them questions they have to confront. They're smart enough to figure it out.
