Still finding it incredible that Americans chose Trump/Vance over this guy and Kamala Harris…

I feel this sums up my academic life right now...

I rent cars quite a bit. I couldn’t figure out how to open the boot on one I rented recently in the U.K. I just used the back seat to store the suitcase and backpack.

Ah the old modern humans using red ochre as sunscreen theory again. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/04...

So fun to see a box of books arrive. The Korean translation! #TheWorldBeforeUs

I enjoyed writing about the Penghu mandible from Taiwan in my book "The World Before Us". I am really glad that biomolecular evidence has now confirmed that this amazing little jaw, fished out of the sea by a fishing boat, is a Denisovan! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

A few hours in Oxford... How nice to see old friends and old haunts on a beautiful spring day! (@lorenabecval.bsky.social)

The resurrection circus keeps clowning, but make no mistake, Dire wolves remain very extinct. An angry, sweary piece by a frustrated geneticist. arutherford.substack.com/p/dire-wolve...

Trump's US imposes huge tariffs on Vietnam and Cambodia after everything they did to those two countries, the bombs they dropped, the people they killed... Disgraceful.

A mass grave of around 130 Roman soldiers has been excavated just to the south of us in Vienna's Simmering district. The remains are all aged between 20 and 30 years old and were exclusively males who appeared to have been killed in battle. Dates indicate ~80-120 AD. www.dw.com/.../mass-rom...

Ok, I’ve seen enough. This is the best thing I’ll ever watch on the internet. (Also, I’ve clearly failed as a father. Could have put my time to so much better use…) Double-decker electric “garden bus” from 1960s England.

Great new paper out on the relationship between climate and human dispersal and occupation in South America. Congrats @lorenabecval.bsky.social

This is a great project, and a great opportunity!
