yes - if you're "threatening" to redraw the borders of a sovereign nation, then any conversation that occurs after that is not a "negotiation"

Catching up on the fuss about Microsoft's "topocomputer" and, while there is a lot that is very specialized, this kind of talk is irresponsible and misleading. And if MS is going to write this kind of stuff, it has no business complaining about others being overly critical.

Somebody should stage a dramatic reading of the comment section of Aaronson's blog. scottaaronson.blog?p=8669

Unfortunately, another article about advance requests for medical aid in dying that does not address what happens on the day. Without that, any request will be a mirage, as in the Netherlands. And not one of the polite ones. We’ve written a response to @nytimes.com’s Peter Baker and every other American who is taking the annexation of Canada as a fun thought experiment. Here in @foreignpolicy.com with my daughter @alicesouthey.com. Gift link.

Dear Manager, 1. I drank a whiskey drink. 2. I drank a vodka drink. 3. I drank a lager drink. 4. I drank a cider drink. 5. I sang the songs that remind me of the good times; I sang the songs that remind me of the better times.

This week I… - slipped out the back, Jack - made a new plan, Stan - was not coy, Roy - hopped on the bus, Gus (Did not discuss much) - dropped off the key, Lee

Strongly disagree with Ian Hanansong here. Trump's "51st state" are not "comments", they are threats and the CBC should treat them as such.

Time for Canada to cancel the F-35 purchase.

Time to wake up and stop kidding yourself, Keir Starmer. Canada can tell you that "not rocking the boat" and "striking a delicate balancing act" do not work. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Trump and "strongmen" Netanyahu meets Trump, result Gaza. Putin calls Trump, result Ukraine. Xi meets Trump, result?

Finally I understand.

The discourse in Canada is about three weeks ahead of that in Europe when it comes to what the USA is now: a security threat, not a partner. And NATO has a lot of catching up to do. Related: time to cancel the F-35 purchase and buy submarines instead.

The more I think about it, the more cynical I am about making press releases about a certain claim coincide with a Nature paper that claims something materially different. Even if they end up factually correct, this is the heart of the issue with mixing capital interests and science

OK you want 1000% proof it is fake?

"Take a step back and double check; don’t jump to thinking that unexpected data indicate something new." Also good advice for Musk and the other Doge idiots.

More on Microsoft's increasingly dodgy-looking quantum computing claims. This will be very embarrassing for Microsoft.

I'm not in a position to judge based on my own knowledge, but this long thread, heavy on specifics and with many sources, looks pretty damning for Microsoft's "topological" quantum computing results.

David Reevely gets it right. Not usually fond of dumping on the media, but adding my "Fuck off New York Times" today.
