Had the very big honour of examining Jumana Abboud's beautiful PhD work last week – on Palestinian water sources, inhabited springs, and imaginations against dispossession

This looks so good 😍

A carefully nuanced essay. Do read & share widely. The relationship of the Palestinian to Zionism and to Israel has always been one of subordination. This relationship, a colonial one, must guide both our politics and our historical methodology. - Esmat Elhalaby (@esmat.bsky.social) bit.ly/3CVWdQM

From today's student day of action for Palestine ❤️

I read this poem today at the student day of action – by Mahmoud Darwish, translated by Fady Joudah – as the university moves in glacial uselessness towards divesting from the "encyclopedia of gunpowder" that marks its past and present thebaffler.com/latest/good-...

“Palestinians are meant to stay in Gaza and get killed by the bombs we deal to Israel, not have a safe route here like those nice white Ukrainians 😡” - Keir Starmer

National student day of action at UCL tomorrow. Malet Place, 1pm

Students on my module led a beautiful discussion on community research and activist knowledge today 🥰

Mosab Abu Toha: “I demand that the American Library Association (ALA) issue a statement condemning the destruction of the Edward Said Public Library in Gaza and boycott Israeli libraries and cultural institution.” https://lithub.com/read-mosab-abu-tohas-statement-on-the-destruction-of-the-edward-sa…

I have been appalled & disgusted by the silence of academic colleauges on the genocide in Gaza (but not surprised). So I expect little from them. For everyone else who cares about knowledge, humanity & truth, this is an powerful film on the scholasticide perpetrated by Israel youtu.be/G5MmIDc1LXE

Cartoonishly villainous (but also very violent) piece by the VC at my uni – championing a genocide-normalising "Israel-Palestine Initiative" which apparently has money to bring Israeli speakers to campus but no money for Palestinians, and that censors criticism from marginalised students (paywalled)

Very glad I've found my people at the university I work at. The grift and the institutional gaslighting is very gross, and I'd be a full academic recluse by now if it wasn't for community pulling together and pulling through

How does a genocide sound? Amid bombs, missiles, explosions, what silences does it impose? And what sounds can an international solidarity front produce? How can one exploit reverberation, exercise echo? How can all frequencies be occupied to finally make the inaudible present?

@harshawalia.bsky.social is here!! Everyone follow her 😍

Israel is currently intensifying its attacks on the West Bank, killing and terrorising people, shutting down cities, cutting off supplies, destroying infrastructure and livelihoods. The annihilation of Palestinians has not stopped with a ceasefire in Gaza, it continues!

New report details how asylum seekers in Greece's EU-funded refugee camps are subjected to invasive phone confiscations & legally dubious AI surveillance systems Findings include two Israeli defense-linked firms involved in surveillance at Greek camps www.computerweekly.com/news/3666182...

Hello hi

There is little else to say except that migration orgs/campaigners will need all the resourcing they can get over the next 5 years. Join, donate, share.

I was taught such a message by my dad when I was very young, but in our language and drawing from our Indigenous cosmology. It has always been a guiding principle. So when I found this quote, it resonated.

Time to redouble efforts and channel resources to Gaza and work for Palestinian liberation until it's really real and the world is finally free of genocide and empire

Our joint statement in response to the ceasefire agreement.

Ceasefire now. Push for justice and struggle for Palestinian freedom continues

I'm reading news of an imminent ceasefire deal. I'm praying that the violence truly stops, that we don't see drawn-out death by another name. I pray that we all stay alert and awake regardless of what comes next. None of us are free until Palestine is free and a ceasefire is not freedom.

Unboxed my advanced copies of #DarkLaboratory my debut coming from @doubledaybooks.bsky.social !!

Our anti-genocide university is getting up and running this month. We're doing campus countermapping, shared struggle building, setting up an engineering resistance room, making a gathering space for imagination/liberation work

A year ago, when Suella Braverman wrongly said grooming is mainly undertaken by Pakistanis there was at least some outrage, some pushback, some degree of people standing up & reacting. Now it is totally normal for politicians across the right to say it. www.theguardian.com/society/2023...

This is at least as inflammatory as "Rivers of Blood". And as detached from reality as anything you'll find in the grimmest corners of the far right. The riots of last summer hasn't given these politicians so much as the slightest pause.

Here’s a whole thread on this absolutely unbelievable admission of guilt on a national scale.

Re-upping this recent report by the Runnymede Trust as Islamophobia in the UK (and elsewhere) gets more and more intense and targeted and dangerous www.runnymedetrust.org/publications...

If you’ve been silent on Israel’s atrocities in Gaza up til now, & especially if you work in a related field, like media, history, geopolitics, civil society, human rights, international affairs, global health, I hope you’re prepared for the questions about your silence that will follow you forever.

Proofs

www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... Gorgeous piece by comrades 💜

Wishing everyone a new year that keeps moving towards liberation and that binds everyone's struggles together until it becomes an irresistible force and the world is finally free of colonisers and genociders

At this point, Israel is bombing what has already been bombed, destroying what has already been destroyed, displacing those who have already been displaced—often multiple times—and killing those who have lost everything and are on the brink of death..

When burning hospitals are no longer news ‘The silence over the demise of Kamal Adwan Hospital is deafening. The world has fully accepted Israel’s genocide’ aje.io/i3k7pq
