Jock Semple eventually saw the error of his ways and reconciled with Katherine. They became good friends.

I remember a program on TV, looking at the sports drinks/water industry, maybe 10 or 15 years ago, where a university professor in sports nutrition said no one ever dies of dehydration running a marathon, but every year 3 or 4 die from over hydration during a marathon.

A bit of a different volunteering around the finish funnel compared to Tyne Green, a bit harder to do those checks to see if the timers are in sync with the finish tokens. All seemed to go smoothly.

A lovely clear morning though it was a bit chilly for barcode scanning and the Town Moor is very open with no shelter from the breeze. I just about had enough layers on to keep warm.

Enjoy. Hopefully it goes ahead ok after the alterations.

It depends, I run through a few, but not all. The skill is to make the right judgement call, to not feel pressured to keep going or to stop. In my 1st 100k I got my nutrition wrong, I stopped at a CP at 85k, I thought I was there for about 10 mins, Garmin showed I was there well over and hour 🤣

It may have been this that I saw, it refers to cognitive function rather than IQ, I may have seen an article that referenced this research, but used the term IQ instead.

Possibly, I'm no expert. The example that I saw was some research on a farming community somewhere that had highly seasonal income, relating to when they sold their annual crop. They measured their IQ before harvest when money was tight & again after crop sales. The difference in IQ was significant

I seem to recall hearing that being in poverty lowers intelligence/IQ, which can be lifted by giving people money. I think it was explained that when money is tight, the brain is overloaded with planning where to spend money when it's scarce.

Hopefully it's put on a platform when some income can be generated for them.

Thanks, that was brilliant, an emotional ride, ultimately uplifting.

Do you know if it's available to stream anywhere?

Leicester marathon 1983, 19 yrs old, I hadn't ran before, I didn't do enough training, I knew nothing about fuelling during a race. 2laps. 1st lap was great, ran strong. 2nd lap was very slow & grim & v. painful. I said I'd never run a marathon again, it took until 2019 to do another. Done 10 now

It just needs those that were farming pre 1992 to say how farmers survived previously when there was no agricultural exemption to IHT. Its relatively straightforward to restructure to reduce the liability to zero. Way too much scaremongering.

Out of interest. Strava hold a lot of valuable data which would be of interest to a whole range of businesses/organisations, such as health companies, insurance, medical etc etc. Do Strava make any income by providing this data to others, anonymously or otherwise?

Have you seen @dcrainmaker.bsky.social post on the subject. I think it may backfire on them and they have to rethink the strategy.

This is the issue that farmers and the NFU should campaign about, not tax.
All farmers need is a fair payment for enhanced environmental standards and a protection from cheap imports which don't have the same environmental and welfare standards. May be 1 or 2 other things, but that's a good start

I couldn't agree more. I'm from a farming background and I feel they are making themselves look bad. Arguing about preserving and asset of £3m+ when there are people in the care sector working long hard hours to live in poverty, just isn't a good look.

I've been running for 8yrs & hit 60 this year. My main objective is to just enjoy each day of running, as long as it lasts. At the moment I'm still getting faster, which feels great, but I will start to slowdown at some point. As long as I can run I don't care how slow I go.

My focus has been on the road this, mainly due to family demands limiting long trail runs/ultras. Current aim is to get a BQ and London marathon GFA (3:37), hopefully get there in the spring. Then hopefully back to the trails.

It's top of my list of things I must do. But I always just head out running 🤣
