Beautiful day on the Colorado Plateau!

The most iconic figure in the environmental sciences is the Keeling Curve, the CO₂ record from Mauna Loa, Hawaii. @noaa.gov had a wonderful site where you could visualize and download these data, and now it's just gone. These data belong to us and we should not let this happen!

super bowl ad not even kidding about this, do a super bowl ad about how Elon has your social security number and can shut off your grandma's check at any time

The Trump’s campaign promise was to finish the job they started on Jan 6 and this is what it looks like.

A private citizen, with the backing of the President, illegally shut down a major government agency over the weekend and it is not on the front page of this morning's New York Times @peterbakernyt.bsky.social

I have always had so much respect for Jamie Raskin. Even when fighting serious cancer this guy never quit fighting.

This nutter.

President Donald Trump on Monday appointed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a powerful watchdog agency whose operations Bessent immediately halted pending a review.

A Spoon is Better Than a Fork This was sent to all EEOC employees. Hit “Reply All,” y’all‼️

BREAKING: Trump has signed an executive order creating a Sovereign Wealth Fund- popular with Middle East monarchies - so the U.S. can buy TikTok. That’s state-run media, folks. www.reuters.com/markets/weal...

JUST IN: A federal judge in Washington says she's concerned that the White House is still implementing the spending freeze that she and a Rhode Island judge have ordered temporarily halted. Judge AliKhan is inclined to issue a restraining order.

So, is an officer of the United States now reporting to someone without any legal authority under the laws and Constitution? Sure sounds like it!

New from me: Musk and his allies seem to be doing another thing common with tech startups in their government takeover--hiring very young technical talent. We identified several those young people who appear to have very high access. @wired.com www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

THIS.

Great thread on the need for and importance of solidarity.

Congratulations, Mr. President. Not only do we face counter-tariffs, we face a grassroots boycott.

About 2 million federal employees have to make a decision by Tuesday about whether to accept the deferred resignation. Both the commissioning editor and author should have asked themselves if they are providing good advice to the presumed audience here.

For a straightforward explanation of the sheer illegality of everything going on, @sbagen.bsky.social has you covered.

"That is the tension at the heart of Trump’s whole strategy: Trump is acting like a king because he is too weak to govern like a president. He is trying to substitute perception for reality. He is hoping that perception then becomes reality. That can only happen if we believe him."

If you missed it, here’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s, quite sincerely, historic speech. It’s for, and is galvanizing, Canadians but he also speaks very directly to our allies in the US. Please hear us out. I do find myself thinking how much I’d give up, and do, for this imperfect country.

One aspect of politicizing the General Counsel positions in government is that now federal employees have no real idea of what is legal or not. The Trump folks don't care about the law and will just say whatever suits. Employees now risk being put on leave or fired if they question the legality.

my contribution to the "does law matter" discourse that's been going on here over the last few weeks:

~A year ago, a group I'm involved with started adding 10 minutes after their mtngs if you want to call elected officials. 🕰️ Everyone stays on zoom but mutes, and calls/emails about whatever topic they want. 📞 Folks who had never before called got help even learning how to find contact info! 🎉

There are plenty of criticisms to be levied at major news media like the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times, and it'd sure be nice if people apprehended that strong newsroom unions are part of the solution.

I'd have refused the editors' chosen title had they told me it in advance. And several keys lines making clear that RFK Jr. is essentially a mass murderer in waiting who has no business anywhere near HHS were cut from this OpEd. Don't judge by the title. www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...

the headline is not “trump blames deadly plane crash on DEI” but “trump seizes on deadly plane crash to attack minorities”

My first and definitely last time working with the Los Angeles Times. Editing out the most urgent point of an OpEd in the minutes before sending to press while then also assigning a title and image that suggest an argument entirely opposite to the author’s clear intent is pretty shitty.
