Just finished the audiobook version of "Long Division" by Kiese Laymon and I recommend it with my whole chest. Up next, not sure. That one was a lot.

The Legislature passed the law in 2023 and later overrode a veto by the Republican governor. The state appeals court said parents have a "fundamental right" to seek medical care for children.

The wild part is we have segregation *now*. Legal segregation is what got struck down but de facto segregation is still poppin. In many ways integration didn't really happen.

The ubiquity of surveys is diminishing the usefulness of surveys. At best, these can only truly be used as marketing material and really only to investors, not consumers.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and several European nations have backed the recently unveiled $53b Arab reconstruction plan for Gaza following 15 months of Israel’s war on the besieged enclave.

I just finished "Long Division: A Novel" by Kiese Laymon and hot damn! Such a good book. I've gotta take a breather after it. I'll read it again next year though. It's definitely one to read and read again.

A reminder for these times.

My son, a kindergartner, is at the library playing Pokemon TCG against a kid who has to be at least 3 years older than him. My son is stomping this child!

The Maine Principal's Association said it would continue to allow trans girls to compete in school sports, saying President Trump's recent executive order is in conflict with state law.

sure, mitch mcconnell cynically masterminded the plot to destroy the US constitution and american democracy, but you have to at least credit him with lifting up his own constituents in Kentucky to make it one of our richest and most prosperous... (touching earpiece) wait I'm getting new information

ICYMI: I’m leading a constitutional amendment to undo Citizens United. After an election where a billionaire bought a seat as Shadow President, we must ensure our democracy is truly of, by, and for the people — not corporations and billionaire donors. truthout.org/articles/jay...

After that plane literally flipped upside down after smashing into the runway and 100% of people survived, I hope every person who ever said “what’s even the point of seatbelts on a plane” feels like a real doof.

I'd point to something deeper I think this thread is touching on: the (US) popular imagination has lost the concept that a system or society can be good, worth representing or defending, the underdog narrative that individuals are good and systems are bad or corrupt runs very deep in US storytelling

My perspective on DOGE as related to a family home: I could save hundreds of dollars per month if I stopped feeding my son. He'll still get breakfast and lunch at school, so no one would notice for a while except him, and he's not important enough to listen to.

I think every "quiet step down" of someone saying "no" to DOGE or Trump to be an ear splitting dog whistle indicating severe threats. I wish I knew what to do about it though. apnews.com/article/soci...

Go see Brave New World I had a good time with it!

In the coming weeks, a lot of slow-on-the uptake folks are going to begin belatedly realizing Trump is both an inept moron and a dangerous autocrat. Our great civic challenge in these trying times will be calmly welcoming them aboard instead of primal-screaming in their faces.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

The #1 reported reason people avoid doctor’s appointments is because they’re afraid of finding out they have a serious illness. If you have that fear, that’s normal and you’re not alone. Also remember, there is basically no serious illness that isn’t less serious if you catch it sooner.

Every accusation is a confession in our country. Introspection is not a well regarded skill.

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

When I was in 7th grade there was a guy who knocked the books out of my arms from behind twice. Each time he laughed and his dumb friend laughed with him. Our current president being elected twice is like that guy got a standing ovation from my school. That is the extent of my political views.

I've had McFrontalot's "Goth Girls" such in my head all morning. It came from nowhere and won't leave.

I don't know how they consider an interest rate of 20-28% worth advertising. Do y'all really think so little of me that I won't read that far down?

This is the part here. There are processes to go through to change names. The prices is not "I say so." No matter who the *I* is.

I know one thing. If someone recently tried to assassinate me, I wouldn't openly go to the Super Bowl. I might know two things. If it was gonna happen. That was when it woulda happened.

Oops 😬

It's weird being a dad when your only reference to dads growing up was sitcom dads. Everyone sits in my chair. I've been lead to believe everyone knows not to do that.

Costco, which has come out saying it supports DEI, will make no changes to its existing programs, AND pays workers a minimum of $30/hour, is up 15% YTD. Target, which announced it is ending all DEI programs and has a minimum wage of $15-$24/hour, is down over 4%. Keep voting with your wallet.

If your boss or company tells you to do something unethical: don't say yes. Make them write it down.

San Francisco and Santa Clara counties, joined by three other cities and counties across the country, are suing the Trump administration over its threats to punish jurisdictions that have sanctuary immigration policies, calling the moves unconstitutional. via @kqednews.kqed.org

Lunch break thoughts www.ign.com/articles/dra... When I saw the combat video for Veilguard, I stopped caring because it wasn't Dragon Age. After hearing the CEO talk, I no longer care about Mass Effect 5.
