The physics REU program at Duke has been canceled this year. It was one of two programs in the country that enabled students to do research at CERN. www.science.org/content/arti...

It happened. Trump and Elon cut our Dept of Defense grant on climate, adaptation, migration, and conflict.

@simonsobs.bsky.social is happening!

Almost a year later, I found that AtLAST was mentioned in 2 news stories shortly after we posted the design paper: www.universetoday.com/166060/astro... phys.org/news/2024-03...

too funny πŸ˜‚

AtLAST is now also on YouTube! We have uploaded the AtLAST forum talks from yesterday πŸ§ͺπŸ”

A gentle reminder that Paranal is endangered. πŸ”

Hello Bluesky! We’re excited to share with you here! Follow for instrumentation, cosmology and astrophysics updates from the scientists of the Simons Observatory.

Fake lines in your ALMA data? Unsure about the statistics? Try jackknify (pypi.org/project/jack...)! ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2025arXi...

An amazing piece of work led by (my brother in science) Joshiwa van Marrewijk and Thomas Morris. Are you building a single-dish telescope (not not talking about you, @atlastdesign.bsky.social) and want to test for mapping and filtering strategies, atmospheric mitigation, etc? Just ask maria. πŸ“‘πŸ”πŸ§ͺ

In this new paper led by Joshiwa van Marrewijk we demonstrated that AtLAST’s 50m-diameter provides the highest levels of correlation of atmospheric signals across adjacent detectors compared to smaller apertures: AtLAST will be great at removing submm atmospheric signal on large scales πŸ”

"The AtLAST project has demonstrated that the pursuit of transformational science can go hand in hand with a more sustainable approach", states project coordinator @claudiacicone.bsky.social in this interview for #CORDIS @ec.europa.eu cordis.europa.eu/article/id/4... πŸ” πŸ§ͺ

Being cool, the Spiderweb way πŸ•ΈοΈ Marika Lepore led a re-analysis of the central region of the Spiderweb protocluster at z=2.16, combining Chandra X-ray and ALMA SZ data. And we find evidence for a strongly cooling core. More on arXiv: arxiv.org/abs/2312.06392 πŸ”πŸ§ͺ

Are you excited about the potential for ALMA in the 2030s? Are you worried about how we'll get there? Then this workshop is for you!

Sensitivities for everyone! πŸ“‘ [feel free to drop me a message if you encounter any problems with the calculator] πŸ§ͺπŸ”

Reposting this so that it appears in the #astronomy feed πŸ”

Abstract submission for the conference "The AtLAST design study: results, science and next steps" (21-24 May 2024) is OPEN: www.atlast.uio.no/news-and-eve... πŸ”πŸ§ͺ
