I've just seen Mad About The Boy (always first with the trends.) I cried a lot and held my husband's hand throughout. When we got home we danced around the kitchen to Ella Fitzgerald. What a wonderful film. Clever, emotive writing. Life affirming.

Favourite review of The Storyteller's Daughter so far: "I started reading it in a cat cafe and the cats did not get much attention as the book drew me into its two worlds."

I put my name into this and found that Meta have scraped four out of my five published novels to train their AI. How much have they paid for this? Nothing. Nada. This is unbelievable. www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...?

A handsome airline captain in uniform just brought me a cappuccino in bed. The sun is peeking past the blinds. Bummer he has to work at the weekend (again), but I do feel very lucky 😊

Went shopping. Bought a bit of tea. Mug for size comparison.

I'm delighted to announce that I've signed a new contract with @boldwoodbooks.bsky.social for four more novels. They are a brilliant publisher and I'm so delighted to be staying with them. Thank you to my fabulous agent @hannahweatherill.bsky.social at @watsonlittle.bsky.social for negotiating it.

Hello, Americans readers! 🇺🇸 My latest novel, The Storyteller's Daughter, is on a new Chirp audiobook deal in the USA - it's just $1.99, and my other timeslip novel, The House in the Water, is $2.99, also via Chirp. They're historical mysteries with a gothic twist www.chirpbooks.com/audiobooks/t...

Spring joy in the island garden

A good day. I just did a school talk for #WorldBookDay, and it's also warm enough to sit outside without a coat.

A reminder that it's actually quite dangerous to use find and replace on Word. In trying to change a character name from Nat to Luke, I now have unLukeurally, alterLukeely and Lukeure galore... Oops.

It's #RareDiseaseDay. This is my sister, Clare, who has Rett syndrome. It's a neurological disorder which affects about 1 in 10,000 girls, and sometimes, boys too. To learn more, visit www.reverserett.org.uk

I'm several #callthemidwife episodes behind but I've just seen the episode about the Measles vaccine and I applaud the writers for featuring the reality of caring for a disabled child. It's even harder than shown, I'd say, but all visibility is important.

Amazon tells me that The House in the Water is topping charts in Japan again today. I still don't understand how this happened or why it's so popular there... but it is definitely lovely.

I've written three novels in the present tense. I'm now writing one which I think calls for the past, but OH MY GOD THIS IS HARD. So odd to think this is the tense I used for my first three books! How quickly your brain adjusts. Or not, in my case.

There's a particular sort of drive you get as a novelist when you're writing something both your agent AND your editor are excited about. I've been excited about this one since I had the idea for it. Now to see how it reads on paper... Love this bit.

I've just sent off my SIXTH novel to my editor. This is live footage of me right now

My daughter asked me if she could go to Reading Club after school. I asked her what it was, assuming it was help for those who need reading support. "No Mummy," she replied. "We just read books and eat snacks." What a perfect school club!

If you're finding January in the UK tough, it might help to know that sunset is 23 minutes later today than it was on January 1st, and sunrise is 10 minutes earlier. Every day is one step closer to those wonderful, warm evenings...

Writing in a library in front of the section where your novels sit on the shelves (a section you used to stare at, dreaming, before your first book deal) is such a buzz. Happy to report that two out of three here are out on loan. @surreylibraries.bsky.social

Happy publication day @toryscott.bsky.social! THE STORYTELLER'S DAUGHTER is published today by @boldwoodbooks.bsky.social

For Christmas, Netgalley gave me... several 5* reviews for my new novel, including this fantastic one from @Cindy_L_Spear. The Storyteller's Daughter is out on January 15th. www.cindylspear.com/news/review-...

I post this every year, and every time it feels more and more true. Have a wonderful day tomorrow, everyone, however you're spending it.

My husband is flying home at the moment. Then he's rostered to fly again tomorrow with an overnight stay, so we're all going with him, if there's room on his flight. Spare a thought for all of the aviation staff getting you to where you want to go this Christmas.

I've received a brilliant early Christmas present! Thank you so much to @toryscott.bsky.social and @boldwoodbooks.bsky.social for an ARC of Victoria Scott's forthcoming historical fiction book 'The Storyteller's Daughter'. I love her books - they're always a treat to read. #mustread

Everyone buying discounted Christmas veg needs to know this: Sprouts make divine coleslaw. You can thank me later.

I met my editor and my agent in London today to talk about new book ideas, and before-bookdeal -me would find this fact extraordinary. I will never take this for granted.

Somebody on Netgalley has just reviewed my new novel, The Storyteller's Daughter, saying they "love a good story about a bookshop." Reader: It is not set in a bookshop.

Had a lovely time this evening playing silly book-related games with my fellow Boldwood Books authors and editorial staff on our annual Zoom Christmas do. They sent us all some fizz to enjoy with it...

Christmas present bargain alert - the hardback of The House in the Water is less than £9 on Amazon today! www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1835...

Is there any bloody social media app where a woman is not deluged with a gazillion bot accounts pretending to be single men who all want to say hi?

I reckon the BBC should screen the Christmas edition of MasterChef but with Greg Wallace's face blobbed out and his words voiced by a middle aged, middle class woman.

I'm delighted to announce I have a new literary agent. I'm now represented by the brilliant @hannahweatherill.bsky.social at @watsonlittle.bsky.social It was Hannah who picked my debut novel out of the slush pile, and I'm so pleased to be working with her again www.watsonlittle.com/client/victo...

In defiance of the rising river, I am listening to this little pocket of joy, which reminds me of my 1980s childhood. It's from a brilliant collaboration between John Denver and The Muppets (and I mean that.) I wholeheartedly recommend it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rN0...

Another anxious day of watching and waiting #thamesfloods

Nothing says a relaxing evening more than spending an hour moving stuff to higher ground.... #Thamesfloods

Watching the river Thames climb again... Quite quickly, actually. Our local levels are above normal highs now, and there are warnings upstream, in Reading. Bracing ourselves. #Thamesfloods
